Default Lazy Chili

I think it's hard to screw up chili, but if you want to do some good easy chili

1lb ground beef.
2 cans chili beans
1 jar of fav salsa
1 can of a flavored diced tomatoes (they make so many I mix it up). Or even like a rotel. (or another jar of salsa)
Some tomato juice, I like V8.
1 onion
1 can of mushrooms, or some fresh
chili powder to taste
cayenne to heat taste
what ever else you seem to like.

Easy. Dump cans of everything in a pot and start to simmer. Chop and cook onions and shrooms down in some butter to desired tenderness. Should season with some salt and chili powder. Cook ground beef. Season with salt, pepper, and chili powder. You can add the cayenne at any step depending how you like the heat. Dump all in the pot. Simmer.

Add the V8/juice till desired consistency. Some like it more soupy, some thicker. You'll likely not need much.

Add chili powder in increments till ya get a nice chili flavor. Add more cayenne or any heat source to the pot and keep simmering for awhile, the more the merry.

I like some cheese and crackers on top, good to go.

Welcome Fall

I vary all steps. Never made the same chili twice

I prefer the "string beef" taste and texture over burger as well. It falls apart after a long simmer. Seems more authentic as well. I doubt the ancient Mexicans had meat grinders!

I have never heard or seen of some of the ingredients that you have enlisted while making chili. If you could upload some pics of the recipe, i would love to see that.

"Chili, as we know it in the U.S., cannot be found in Mexico today except in a few spots which cater to tourists. If chili had come from Mexico, it would still be there. For Mexicans, especially those of Indian ancestry, do not change their culinary customs from one generation, or even from one century, to another."

There's nothing complicated in there.

I like a chunky salsa:

Some chili beans, I usually use:

Plain diced tomatoes are fine, but always looking for flavor:

Or you could use this, a bit more spicy (or both for that matter)

I like some mushrooms, any brand will do but I like these:

If you use fresh, they should be sauteed first with some butter.

A little juice for consistency. Much of the canned ingredients does provide a lot of liquid, so you might not need much.

brown the ground beef and cook the onions down as far as you like. Drain the greese.

Dump all of the above in a pot and simmer.

Of course a good bit of this to pull it together as a chili:

Slowly some of this for heat if you like:

I'm going to make some soon, so I'll try to post pics of the finished product.

Guess i'm just cheap using ground, but I may try the steak. I don't mind the corn, just never been big on it.

I forgot about beer, I've done that before as well.

The fun thing about chili is you can't screw it up too bad and it's fun to experiment with

Just a guess but I am betting you don't know where to get fav salsa. Let me help you. Go to the grocery store you frequent and buy your favorite salsa. That will work.

Surely you ain't having trouble with "flavored diced tomatoes"!

This rather mundane post regarding chili recipes has morphed into one of the most fecked up thread in weeks. Is it because it is a Spenser thread/ Is it because Cybercowboy is involved.

What is happening here?

Very easy, and of late, I've changed to more fresh ingredients.
