Took the CTS V in for service and wanted to find out why the engine is blowing black smoke like a diesel under heavy acceleration. "There is a noticeable amount of black smoke from the exhaust when the engine is cold and accelerating hard. This is not an abnormal concern. This vehicle has a very powerful engine that will consume fuel rapidly when under acceleration. Monitored fuel trims and engine data and all show appropriate."

WOW, didn't know the EPA would sign off on emissions like this. I wonder how the LT4 in the Z06 and ZL1 do under heavy acceleration.

Even my 685 HP Z06 doesn't blow black smoke like you describe.

One of my mechanics was behind me leaving work when I accelerated aggressively. He said he couldn't see the back of the car from the black cloud. Typical GM POS.

Lookup the problems Ford is having with the Coyote "Tick" and "Rattle"

So far mine hasn't developed the tick, but I do have a slight rattle at about 1700 RPM. '17 GT BTW. Some dealerships were replacing short blocks because of it, but Ford has recently officially declared that it's "Normal"

At least it has been documented. I would go up the chain of command on this. Call Customer Service or Corporate, that way they will open a ticket directly with the dealership...preferably a different one than you just took it to.

Is this a known issue with these cars?

This was the second dealer, the first where I bought the car from, I wouldn't have them check the level in the windshield washer anymore. They are a bunch of lying pricks who I have on dash cam as such.
I did have a case with GM but of course they closed it once this dealer claims it is normal. According to the technical center. Typical GM, a bunch of ass hats in a glass tower.

That's bullshit dude, I'd be pissed as hell. Hell, it isn't even my car and it makes me mad.

Sorry you're having frustrations with it man. I'd be fit to be tied if I got shuffled off even once.

And like Datawiz, I have a 700 hp build in the C5 and there is virtually no smoke, AND it is tuned fat on the top end for safety. Still no smoke with 5k rpm launches.

A small puff of black going to WOT... sure.

"Can't see the back of the car"?

Ummmm... No.

Maybe you should drive it TO the GM tower and 'roll coal' in front of their entrance. I'd be upset, too. It seems like you need a GM rep to do what that mechanic did, drive behind you as you open it up and actually experience the smoke cloud. That kind of thing I can see being subjective, everyone's idea of a cloud of smoke can be different.

Hope you get a resolution. You've certainly had your share of issues with GM's late model premier vehicles.

Full throttle from the rear in the 1/4 mile. No smoke.

Take it to a larger dealer like Kenny Kent Chevrolet.

I tell everyone, buy from small dealers, service at large ones.

Problem being, Kenny Kent is a Chevy dealer and this is a Cadillac. I tried to convince the service clown to let me do this and no go. Oh well, the frustration builds with GM. I'm going to get a friend to video the car on hard acceleration and then post it up on youtube, put a link on FB and also a copy of the service report. I'm really leaning towards sending the report to the EPA along with the cloud of smoke and see what they ask GM.

And? We work on Cadillac's all the time, any certified GM dealer can work on any GM vehicle.

I wouldn't recommend that. Send proof that YOU are polluting? They will come after you. You will be on their radar. You don't want that.
