As I rebuild the office, I also am swapping two 8 TB drives out for 2 12 TB drives. I routinely rotate in fresh hardware and retire the old ones, while still operational, as a sort of archival strategy.

I have a USB 3.0 device that holds both drives, old and new, and now I'm copying to the new one. This screen shot made me chuckle.

I do the same thing when I upgrade my NAS drives, only after a while when it's clear I will no longer need the data as backup I move the old drives into my main PC. The other day I swapped out 2 3TB drives and swapped in 2 6TB ones. Took me two days to copy everything over.

We had a safe full of those platters that had just been put out of service. Years later nobody would take the time to have sent for destruction so I brought torches in and we melted them down along with dozens of drives. Problem solved.
