Well, damn. I have a 40%.....
blockage of one of my main arteries. Scared the mess out of me when my cardio doc told me yesterday.
I cut out smoking after I was hospitalized during the summer, don't drink except occasionally during fooseball games, and changed mt diet. Doc said to stay on meds, eat more meat, and less carbs. Less carbs? shit, i mostly eat pasta and italian stuff i make fresh. getting older sucks. |

Carbs, especially refined carbs (bread, pasta, sugar) are definitely not good for us. Sounds like your doc is up to speed, most aren't. The 50-60 year-old government food pyramid is upside down. Meat, eggs, etc. are good for us. Eating fat does not make us fat, and it doesn't plug our arteries. |

I usually have an English muffin Saturdays with breakfast, and occasionally white buns during the week, but not every day. It's almost impossible to avoid unless you never go out to eat. Candy, cake, ice cream, soda pop, NFG. Although at my age, I don't avoid it as much as I used to. At some point most people stop caring, we have to enjoy what remains of our lives somewhat. |

40% is not bad. Try 85-90% like I had... Believe me, you do NOT want bypass surgery! Avoid that shit at all costs...

I had a 99% blockage. Hard to breathe, headaches. Finally went in, BP was 210/110. Would have never known..
Passed every test, blood, ct, mri, x ray and stress. Doc said I had a blockage. Heart cath next day. I had a widow maker. But, I had 3 arteries vice 2. And I had runners going around blockage already. Doc said I obviously did cardio workout, prior military, but food was my enemy. Put me on Statins (not healthy by the way) calcium blocker, aspirin low dosage and bp meds. Mediterranean diet is the best for you. Until you have surgery, stent or bypass, you relay wont know how bad things are.. I was 53 when my episode happened. |

My doc told me to cut down on pasta and I told her that I'm Italian and you may as well put me down right now. Ugh...
Seriously though, you are too young for that sort of condition, I'd follow orders...and monitor things closely.. |

40% is a wake up call, I believe the current protocol is to treat surgically at 70% so you have time. As said already, cut the empty carbs as they metabolize as sugars which aid inflammation and helps blockages form and grow. If your cholesterol is high get your LDL under 70, that means statins if you're not already on one. You're lucky, most don't find out they have an issue until their artery is completely occluded.
You got this, it's not as hard as it sounds. |
