So, why are people buying a Model Y over a Tuscon/Rav 4 or CRV?

Yes, it absolutely is better. You're the one that just felt the need to put it in the same class...

Here, let me refresh your memory:

The X5M belongs in a class with the MX Plaid, Urus, RSQ8
I don't give a shit how fast it is in a straight line, the Model X is nowhere near the same class of vehicle as the X5M and RSQ8... much less a f**king Urus.

The dumbest argument of all, which is saying a lot given the things that you say, is that you actually seem to believe that driving in a straight line is what defines those SUVs.

Because they want to get on the EV train. They want what's trendy and "cool". Because they're stupid enough to believe that they're benefiting from the tax credit as opposed to Tesla. ...and most commonly, because they're f**king stupid enough to believe that they're helping the environment. The largest market in the USA is mid-size SUVs. The Model Y is the EV that fits that market.

It's really not that difficult to connect the dots.

Look at any research that has ever been done on EVs. The answer is always the same.

Quote:
Among those who would consider purchasing an EV, about seven-in-ten say helping the environment (72%) and saving money on gas (70%) are major reasons why. A small share (12%) cite keeping up with the latest trends in vehicles as a major reason.

You like to use "people you know" as examples so now I will do the same. I actually know 3 people that own Model Ys. 1 is stupid enough to think he's helping the environment. 1 is the owner of a flower shop who uses it to make short delivery trips ... and thinks she's helping the environment... and the 3rd is a computer IT guy that I work with that drives exactly the speed limit in the middle lane down the highway.

No, the majority of people don't buy them for "performance", not even your EV skewed version of what that word means. I know you want that to be the reason. No matter how much you try to say it is, it's not.

That may work out well, as I am going to need a 90+% employee discount on the roadster model.

Just heard today, that of the 88 public EV charging stations in Fresno, roughly 60 are inoperable due to the wiring being stolen by thieves.

Damn, Fresno must be doing well, 88 stations, average cost of $75K, figure land is worth $250K per station.
Total taxpayer contribution to ev cars is $30+M.

Fresno can afford this, as they defunded police, allowed crime to soar, kept the money for BS and pol theft, and then got the money back from state taxpayers, GENIUS:

This is one of the many reasons I bought a car with 400HP. Overwhelming force nips a lot of douche-baggery right in the bud.

Fresno got 203 million in federal funding, Oakland was slated for the same (same size population) but the mayor missed the deadline so Oakland got zip.
Our police force is fully funded, at capacity, and the city is a politically red city, being ag based. Living here compared to my 40 years in Oakland is a breath of fresh air.

That says more about the shithole you live in than it does about EVs.

Looks like the copper thieves are running rampant up there.

Statewide. Copper wire and Catalytic Converters. It's a meth/fentanyl/border state thang.

There's an All EV Car Show this Saturday a couple of hours from here. I wonder if GSC3 will be there showing off. Rumor is there will be vendors selling rainbow stickers and hats, and maybe EV performance parts. Hopefully neighbors don't call 911 because of all the noise from the Performance SUVs that are sure to show up.

I'd drive over to it but I'm scheduled to watch some paint dry.

And will continue as long as the thieves have easy targets and crooked recyclers to take the goods.

Back in the home building rush years, it was not uncommon to have a nearly finished tract home completely stripped of its copper plumbing and wiring before completion.

And the latest great news for EVs is that Rivian recently announced they are "indefinitely pausing" plans to construct a $5B factory outside Atlanta. This comes after they laid off 10% of their workforce earlier this year.

Production of EVs can't keep up with demand for them because everyone wants one.

In the end, it is irrelevant why someone buys a car in a particular class. Sure, some people buy a URUS because it handles well or accelerates well and others buy it as a status symbol. Regardless what the motivation is why someone buys a car, that doesn't change the class of the car. I'm surprised that a large amount of EV owners does it for the environment. Maybe that survey was done in California where Liberal ideology will influence polling results. I bet that if you run a similar survey of EV owners in Florida, you'll get different results. I know many EV owners and maybe 1 out of 10 I know considered the environment when buying an EV.

Statistics is clearly not your strong suit. A sample size of "several people" among all Hertz customers is statistically meaningless. Hertz says one reason it's selling off a large part of its EV fleet is "weak demand" for them, along with high repair costs.
