Default Florida man? Florida woman? Nope. Florida kids take a shot at the limelight!

We are all familiar with the "Florida man" byline and the occasional Florida woman but now the hijinks and wackiness has hit the teens.

A standoff and shootout with armed runaways Tuesday night at a Deltona home ended with deputies shooting a 14-year-old girl, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

The girl is in stable condition, the sheriff’s office said, after being taken to Central Florida Regional Hospital with gunshot wounds that threatened to end her life.

Volusia County Sheriff’ Mike Chitwood said deputies didn’t have a choice after the teen and her 12-year-old cohort fired at deputies four times between 8:28 p.m. and 8:54 p.m. from inside the house.

“Eventually, after all this goes on and we try to de-escalate — we throw a cellphone into the house, try to talk to them — the 14-year-old comes out of the house with a pump shotgun, levels it at deputies,” Chitwood said, “ and, despite warnings to drop it, she walks back into the garage, she comes back a second time and that’s when deputies fire after taking multiple rounds.”

The boy was taken taken to the same hospital as the girl because he’s a diabetic who needed his medication immediately, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office said.

Neither the home nor the weapons belonged to the boy or girl. Chitwood said they broke into the home through a window, drawing the attention of a person passing by. That witness told deputies who contacted one of the homeowners, which Volusia County property records identify as A.J. and Amber Bedizel. A.J. Bedizel said nobody should be in the house, but what should be in the house are a handgun, shotgun, AK-47 and ammunition.

The two kids, who the Miami Herald is not identifying because of their ages, were runaways from Enterprise’s Florida United Methodist Children’s Home (FUMCH), about a mile and a half from the Deltona house. The sheriff’s office said it dealt with “close to 300” in 2020 at FUMCH.

Chitwood called the home “a complete failure and disgrace to the juvenile justice system in the state of Florida,” and said the boy was transferred there after stealing puppies and burning down a halfway house in Flagler County.

“Because the juvenile justice system works so well here in the state of Florida,” Chitwood said.

I'm sure the neighbors were all overjoyed when the Juvie Hall was built by the church in their neighborhood. Nice of the media to reveal the name of the robbery victum, but not the stinking kids.

It's all on the FB page for the Sheriff. Pics of a tree one officer was standing behind and the entire thing on video. Tree is full of bullet holes. They fully intended on killing anyone near them. I don't care what the age...if you watch the video and the kids taking aim and firing an AK47, handguns, shotgun, etc...I would have no mercy firing back at them. Lib comments are people and the system has failed them. BS.

We had a similar home in our town one time. I think the people just used it to get $$$ from the .gov to house the troubled kids. But, the scanner was always going off with calls to that place.

So there really is a "Florida Man" angle to this story: Florida Man doesn't understand that his firearms should be locked up when leaving the home.

They were locked up when he left.

Or

Are you saying have your home locked up, and your weapons locked in a separate place inside your locked house?

Because; steak knives are a weapon, scissors, hatchets, machete, kitchen knives, knitting needles, cleaver, pocket knives, hunting knives = weapons...

...what about baseball bats?...lock them up too when leaving?

Compound bows, cross-bows, long bows????

I don't have any compound bows or cross-bows, but I suspect that if I did, they would be locked up as well.

What about:
steak knives, scissors, hatchets, machete, kitchen knives, knitting needles, cleaver, pocket knives, hunting knives

Lock them up separately too?

blow gun?

What about multi-tools?:

How many weapons need to be locked up inside a locked, residence, shop, office, building, etc...?

Really? Somebody's house gets broken into and robbed and you blame the victims for the criminals actions?

The girl is a long term loser. Got caught stealing a dog when she was 11. Lcals say her Mother and her steal dogs then claim rewards for their return to fund Mommy's drug habit. She was in a other "Home" and set a bunch of fires because she was unhappy.

This is nobody's fault except the mother and child. They both deserve harsh punishment, not more excuses.

I'm sorry to say but the 2 are beyond "repair". Just think if this was 50 years ago. The kids would not have been able to sit for a week. Would have to work odd jobs to help repair the damage to the house etc.

I blame all this on the media. Every night that is what we've been seeing on TV.

They are minors and their names can't be released by law. Now, if they get charged as adults then that's a different story.

This warrants being charged as an adult.

Another brick in the wall:

Miami dad takes 10-year-old son to do ‘paint ball drive by.’ Boy shot by scared resident
https://www.miamiherald.com/news/loc...251820958.html

Police say a 10-year-old boy approached his father with an unusual request: Could he take him to do a drive-by shooting in Opa-locka with a paint gun? The father, 26-year-old Michael Williams, agreed, detectives say.

Williams’ van pulled up to the house on the 2300 block of Rutland Street, and the boy began to shoot paint balls into the crowd, where some other young people were gathering in the front yard. But the resident, Gregory Barns, believed “he and his family were under attack” — and squeezed off one round with a real gun, wounding the boy on Sunday night, according to police.

Williams has now been charged with child neglect with great bodily harm, saying he “acted recklessly by agreeing to conduct a drive by paint ball shooting,” according to an Opa-locka police report made public on Tuesday.

The boy suffered a further injury after losing his balance and getting run over by the van, according to the police report. In the chaos, Williams got the boy, put him in the van and drove home, where the child’s mother called 911, police said.

It was unclear Tuesday if Williams had an attorney. Information on his case has yet to be posted online. He was no longer listed as being in a Miami-Dade jail.

I think the takeaway has something to do with a 26-year-old dad having a 10-year-old kid.

Outtake from Idiocracy.

The 14-year-old girl has been arrested twice since 2017, and has had dozens of other interactions with law enforcement, some for mental health issues.

The 12-year-old boy has been Baker-Acted three times.

That 12-year-old appeared before a judge on Thursday. During the proceeding, he was ordered to be held in secure detention, for now.

Investigators say he and a 14-year-old girl ran away from the Enterprise children's home Tuesday night, broke into a house where they found weapons and fired dozens of rounds at deputies who had surrounded the house.

The boy had been in foster care since 2016, officials said.

The 12-year-old has had a troubled past that includes significant mental health issues while in and out of foster care, as recently as April of this year. Sheriff Chitwood said the boy was suspended from school after threatening a school administrator and another student.

According to records, in 2016, he was Baker-Acted three times within 10 days. In the first instance, the child, who was age 7 at the time, was biting himself, throwing himself off the ground and trying to push a twig down his throat.

Two days later, at a Deltona school, documents show the boy ran away, into traffic, and when caught by staff members, he grabbed a wooden stick and struck a teacher several times and bit another, officials said.

A week after that, while home with a foster family, reports show the boy beat his head on the floor (then told his foster mother) he could not wait until she went to sleep so he could cut her throat.

Likewise, the 14-year-old girl has had issues, according to documents, 37 interactions with Volusia County law enforcement since 2017.

In many of those cases, it was mental health issues, but in 2018 when she was 11, she was arrested after being seen on surveillance video stealing a dog. She was ordered into a diversion program. This past April, while living in a Flagler County group home, the girl was arrested again and accused of starting multiple woods fires that came close to homes. She was released back to her guardian without being booked into juvenile detention.

The Flagler County Sheriff's Office has had 15 interactions with the teen since January 2021, officials say.

At last check, the 14-year-old was in critical, but stable, condition after suffering multiple gunshot wounds.
