What most businesses do is jack up their prices by an amount sufficient to cover their CC fees as opposed to tacking on a surcharge. The effect of this is that people paying cash are subsidizing people who pay by CC. IF (and that's a big if) the business is NOT jacking up their prices and only passing along their CC fees to actual CC users then I might be in support of it.

Cash is King. Instant settlement and no merchant fees. It's all I accept anymore. Used to take C.C. and one year my merchant fees were over $7,000.00. That's a lot of money, to me.

I use C.C. to pay when the entities don't add fees All my local utilities accept them. Oddly enough, the local government adds a surcharge for using credit or debit cards and the State gov has outsourced to a private entity that charges for using them to pay for licenses, taxes, etc., so they get checks.

I used one to pay for a replacement rooftop HVAC, recently. I think it was close to $20,000.00? Think it dropped my credit score several points?

My internet and one of my utilities doesn't charge more for using CC, another utility does. I think even the DMV wanted a surcharge for using CC when I registered a new vehicle. At the very least, state orgs should get a break from those CC fees.

How does it save you an hour? No transaction fee if you pay online but with checking account 'echeck', it just sucks to miss out on CC reward points for the spending.

They charge a fee for any online payment. Convenience fee believe they call it.
Saves me an hr as takes me that long to goto post office to buy stamps again, save me 2 hrs if had to drive to dmv office and pay. Ours don't renew on same day of year for all vehicles like some states do(birthday used). So every few months I have another dmv bill.

I see it all the time. Doesn't bother me, because I use cash more often than not. Maybe someday, the folks who laugh and call me a "dinosaur" will figure it out, but I doubt it.

This just happened at a local Produce store near us. I spoke to the owner. He said the reason they were increasing 3 to 4% for card purchases was to attract younger individuals that don’t carry cash. Keep in mind this store was cash only for 50 years. It’s a dairy farm.

I blame the young snot nose, bastards!

He said they were losing out to the chains for lack of convenience.

Seems I need to be more specific about my posts.

I pay no attention to this crap when I use my CC. I do pay attention to most threads here and will comment occasionally.

This is a good point. We all know that the cc's charge businesses. Why not just include it?

Is this any different than placing utility charge, or rent adjustment charge? Just do business with cards, or not.

Retailers at many shopping/dining commercial developments (malls etc) will add a 3-5% surcharge to every bill that goes to the center for common maintenance and for planned events at the center. It's a line item on the receipt and not baked in to the prices.

People get all excited about "awards programs", without realizing who pays for those programs. It's basically a shell game.

When a "cash discount" is offered, I pretty much always take it. I don't like paying for your "rewards".

It’s been many years since I accepted them but IIRC, the merchant was on the hook for fraud, too. Stolen cards and such but I believe card issuers said we couldn’t ask for I.D.?

Maybe I’m mistaken? This was before electronic card readers, I was depositing paper C.C. receipts that had to be swiped with one of those old school manual machines. So many years ago, I couldn’t swear to it.

I think I still have one of the old knuckle buster card imprinters packed away somewhere.

I remember back before electronic terminals, we needed to check every card against a book of account numbers, which was updated every couple weeks or so. If there was a match, we had to call in to get an approval.
