Shoot, i heated my whole pool to 96* for a few days over Christmas and the gas bill was still only $220. Its all the idiots on Griddy last week that should be worried.

Last month's bill was $80.00. I am expecting this bill will be at least $300.00. You can't burn a gas fireplace for three days on the cheap.

I wish I had natural gas so I could worry about the bill. My electric bill will be over $300 for the month. It could be over $400 after the the utility company adds in the high usage surcharge for purchasing additional power from out of state.

I got an estimate of $25,000 to run a gas line down the street. Guess that ain’t gonna happen.

You could switch to propane. But if you have electric heat now, might be way to expensive to switch the heating system in your house.

I will probably end up with propane when I get a generator. Then I can add a gas insert to the fireplace. I have to keep the thermostat set to at least 65 or the electric heater can’t heat the house back up. The ducts are all exposed under the house which stands 10ft above the ground.

Basically they buy power wholesale at current market and during the ice/cold snap wholesale prices went thru the roof. So the customers have to pay up the super high wholesale they signed up for.

our current home is one of those "all electric" types. We do not have natural gas available.

Over the years I've installed a few propane units;

* a ceramic log fireplace which is capable of heating almost the entire house

* a whole house generator

* greenhouse heater (small unit)

* shop heater

I went from using a pair of tanks (that are replaced by the propane provider when needed), to a "pig" tank (an upright standing 120 gallon refillable tank), to now a buried 250 gallon tank.

But getting a good sized propane tank and a portable heater or two could be a good fallback

I only used 200 cubic feet more than the same time period last year and that was on top of my wood burner breaking down. That forced me to boil water and run the oven with the door open for 2 weeks. Was expecting a lot worse but it only cost $280... No big deal considering the alternative.
