I take lots of supplements to increase my good cholesterol which moves plaque away from the arteries. How are your cholesterol numbers?

Nothing removes plaque from an artery. The role of HDL (good cholesterol) is to bind with LDL (bad cholesterol) allowing it to be flushed from your system in your liver. What you want is a cholesterol ratio (HDL to total cholesterol) of 5.0 or less.

Again, nothing removes plaque once it's in the artery wall.

No, I have a 28mm stent. My point of statins is they are not a healthy medicine to take.. Diet is far better life change than to depend on the medicine.

Very true.
Years ago there was an article about a medical breakthrough to clean the arteries. Then poof, gone..
I think big pharm took it away. Here is a bit of an article about it.
I also think John Hopkins is milking this product for future use down the road. No rush, as it would stop a huge gravy train of money if they could fix this.

Can chelation therapy treat heart disease?
Answer From Francisco Lopez-Jimenez, M.D.

It's unclear whether chelation therapy can treat heart disease.

Chelation therapy has long been used as a treatment for mercury and lead poisoning, but it isn't a proven treatment for heart disease. It can potentially cause serious side effects when used as a heart disease treatment. Even so, some people have received chelation therapy to treat heart disease and stroke.

Chelation therapy involves weekly treatments of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) given in a vein. Each treatment lasts from 30 minutes to up to several hours.

In general, the medicine finds and sticks to metals and minerals in the bloodstream. This action creates a substance that leaves the body in the urine. Some researchers say chelation therapy can treat heart disease because the medicine may stick to — and remove — calcium found in deposits that clog arteries.

However, chelation therapy for heart disease remains controversial.

Here's what is known so far:

The Trial to Assess Chelation Therapy (TACT) didn't provide enough evidence to support routine use of this treatment for heart disease. But it did find that chelation therapy offered moderate protection against future cardiovascular events, such as stroke and heart attack, in those with diabetes. Another study, TACT2, will focus specifically on people with diabetes.
The American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology say it's uncertain whether chelation therapy is helpful as a treatment for heart disease.
The Food and Drug Administration hasn't approved chelation therapy for use as a heart disease treatment.

Chelation therapy for heart disease has known risks and side effects. The most common is burning at the vein site where the medicine is given. Other side effects include fever, headache, nausea or vomiting.

Rare but serious complications of chelation therapy for heart disease that have been reported include:

Low blood-calcium levels.
Sudden drop in blood pressure.
Drop in the number of blood cells made in bone marrow.
Heart failure.
Kidney damage.
Death.

Before trying chelation therapy as a heart disease treatment, talk to your health care team about the benefits and risks.

my younger years were really, really fun

it's also genetic and runs in the family, though my little brother is the only one in the family who does run. He's got really high BP and is early stages of diabetes.

Actually, diet can only affect approx. 10% of your serum cholesterol levels which is why so many people fail by diet alone. Say your LDL is 300, the best you can do by diet alone is reduce it to say 270 which is still far above the recommended levels. You can increase your HDL levels with exercise which will flush more LDL from your system but again the gains are not all that large and not a big enough swing for most people fighting high cholesterol.

Statins have a dark side but they are far more effective than anything else available. Last I checked there risk of serious side effects from statins was about 1.3%.

VA put me on them once. I made it about a week before throwing them away. I have a pretty clean diet and exercise daily so the only alternative was more wine. Seems to be working.
