True story. In 1542 Juan Cabrillo was the first European to enter San Diego Bay. In a rush to get ashore, he didn't even eat his breatfeast. Some time later his cook followed him ashore with his breakfast. However, just as he reached the glorious Cabrillo, the cook dropped Cabrillo's breakfast onto the beach. "Yuck", Cabrillo exclaimed, "Sandy Eggo!"
And that's how San Diego got its name.
