I’ll stick with my statement; if the Voting criteria used up to 2008 was good enough then, so I’m sure it’s good enough going forward.

this ^^^ makes my point.

the reason we had no problem then...

votes were not bought with the promise of entitlement hand outs.

today, many vote for whoever will give them something...not who is the best leader for the time.

This guy sums it up best:

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, followed always by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.

Alexander Fraser Tytler

The even more shameful part of this is that now even non-citizens and whole foreign countries have figured out how to get American candidates elected so those foreigners can collect money from the US treasury, too.

Maybe now is a good time to find a Hot Deal on a Private Island and plant your own Flag.

Well in that case, some feel the system wasn't broke when women and minorities couldn't vote.

Guess it's time to turn back the clock and make it like it was before people started meddling with the system.
I thought that's what we're talking about.

So what you’re saying is, it’s not enough to an American Citizen to Vote, you need to be Politically and Historically Astute also?

There are a lot of people who know little about Cars, but that’s not stopping them from buying Cars and Driving.

I fundamentally disagree … and hope this country never gets that low.

Vested Interest in the Outcome will be subjective.

Look ... IMO ... the only reason why this is now an issue ... is to help the Republican Party regain the edge they are loosing rapidly.

Remember ... it's my opinion.

you could not be more incorrect.

I started this portion of the debate in this thread...and I'm not a Republican.

The ONLY reason for a qualifier for voting is to insure the best & most informed voters possible...and in return, deliver us the best possible leadership.

It's not about party, it's about quality governing.

To deny that most politicians play to the lowest common denominator would be to be ignorant of the process.

Currently, and for the past few decades...that lowest common denominator is entitlements.

Both political parties do it...just one party is more successful in their efforts.

I respectfully disagree ...

Why should I know be able to Vote for someone I like and someone I would like to Lead?

you mean "why should I not", correct?

because just because one is likeable, does in no way automatically make him/her a competent & quality leader with good governing/management qualifications.

an informed, and qualified voting public...better insures those qualities & qualifications exist in those they elect.

iPad complete me before I know what I'm going to say .. F'cken apple.

Look you can't measure everyone in the United States with the same standards. It's not going to happen.

It's an open as Free Election and it should stay that way.

The next thing you know, they will be asking for 4 Year Degrees to Vote. Screw that, this is one oversight that doesn't need to happen.

Sure, you may get some Jimmy Carters or Gerald Fords ... but it's works on average. You can't always get your way in Election, but the good news is, there's always another one coming.

Big Brother needs to take a seat on this one.
