Cars were all over the sides of the road that had run out of GAS. God forbid it rains and they have the wipers on eating battery power.
True.

If I am in Miami, and wish to leave the state of Florida without refueling, I am just plain shit out of luck, by about a hundred miles.

My comments and your comments together add up to a very real reality of mass evacuations from Florida. If the gas stations run empty along the major highways, those leaving late from South Florida are going to be rightfully ****ed.
Also true, too!

So in an evacuation scenario, gas or EV…..it doesn’t matter, you’re hooped either way…..no?
The ICE advantage is, people can carry a few extra Jerry cans with extra fuel. When we went to check on a relatives house after Katrina, there was no gas past Baton Rouge, so we stopped, filled up the truck, and filled up 4 cans.....instant extra 24 gallons of range. We ended up not needing it and left it with a friend of the family who needed it for the generator and to get around. Cant really do that with electric vehicles.

A lot of rain here on the Treasure coast. Pool is over flowing and the bands of rain have gotten very heavy.

On that subject, you’re correct.

Curios though, how do they ring up your milk and bread purchase without power?
I don't know about Florida, because I don't live there. But here in NJ, all gas stations are required to have back-up generators for exactly this purpose. They pump gas and ring up your milk and bread purchase just fine when the power is out.

The bigger problem is that in the middle of a hurricane, fuel deliveries are negatively impacted. Those evacuating late may, and often do, encounter gas stations that have all the electricity they need to pump gas, but no gas to pump.

It appears to be following a similar track to Hurricane Charley, but with a much wider path. The eyewall is 30 miles wide vs. 5 miles for Charley.

A Mother of a storm.

I am on pins and needles.

My mother lives at the inner most portion of Tampa bay at 11 feet above sea level. Refused to leave because her neighbor said they always tell people to evacuate and its a waste of time. So my Mom and her 3 elderly friends (all widows) are just going to ride it out.

They are in Zone A, mandatory evacuation. I called and basically begged that they go inland a but, my plea fell on deaf ears.

My Mother went to Florida yesterday with some of her friends.

They are in Destin so I was not worried about the weather for them.

Been thru 7 maybe 8 Florida hurricanes in 26 years. Dino fuel or electrons doesn’t matter. Try to evacuate too late and you’ll be sitting in a metal box unmoving for hours
