Default Schwenker?

Used to like to eat different grilled meat dishes in Germany. They were invariably cooked on a round, swinging grill over an open fire.(Called a Schwenker)
Anybody have one, or know who makes them?

Are you talking the tripod type?

I used to have one when I went camping a lot. Check out the outdoors outfitters. The one I had also came with a kettle. Very handy in the backwoods.

Yep. Folding tripod with chains passing over a pulley so it can be raised and lowered.
Round grill that can swing. Hangs over a firebucket or flat fire tray.

I have the cast iron "griddle" here as opposed to the "grill". Have to make a new tripod since the one it came from was welded togetherand hard to relocate.
Let me know when you're in the area and we'll schwenk it.

That's what I was thinking...

Some chain from an old swing set, a round grill from an old rusted out charcoal grill someone tossed out at the curb.

Few sticks of conduit, and we have a home built custom.

It does look like a cheap practical way to cook outside..

We cook with fire daily here, they usually just control the flame with how much wood is inserted at a time.

Sometimes with the larger outside fires they just use bigger rocks to set the pan on if they need it higher.

A cursory look online shows prices are way out of line. Germany will be even higher. Not a carry on item either.

If you do happen to see a folding unit that is inexpensive and can be sent, then give me a shout. Thanks!

If you want it sturdy, make or have one made. At least the tripod part. If I have some time this weekend, I can check some German websites for tutorials.

I'm at Ramstein, but I guess you'll be keeping busy with the family.
