Default Harlem Globetrotters

Saw them yesterday afternoon.
SIL took grandsons last night.
10 yr old was very UN-impressed.
I still talk about when by dad took me to see them when I was about 10 yrs old.
They did a nice tribute to Curley Neal, Meadowlark, Goose, et.al.

They were funny back then because we didn't know that blacks doing slapstick humor is demeaning, or so they say.

They probably can't even show a 70's HG game on TV because there would be a total meltdown.

The HG were iconic, not sure about today, as very hard to replace the legends, as Curly and Meadowlark were great characters.
As a kid I watched them everytime I could on TV, always most entertaining.

LITTLE KNOWN GLOBETROTTER TRIVIA:
Wilt Chamberlain was a Globetrotter for 1958-1959, which would have been his senior year at Kansas, but he opted out.
NBA at that time only allowed players whose graduating class was completed.
He was paid $50K, and in 2000 the Globetrotters retired his number 13.

Good read, Globetrotters and Wilt in Moscow 1959:https://bock-schroeder.com/wilt-cham...tter-in-moscow

That's where I saw them too, on Wide World of Sports. Never got to see them live. It was an entertaining show!

This. I saw them in the 60's with my grandmother. She took me to several events, about once/ year, to Boston Garden, and always got great seats. The 'Trotters were great entertainers, talented athletes, but above all perfect gentleman.

I never cared for them.

As a kid when they came on TV, wide world of sports or something, I’d have to get up and change the channel.

First time I saw them in 1966 at the Phila Civic Center ( even before the Spectrum )

Nice , relatively small venue so even second level seats were still close.
