Cold out there today....below freezing right now. Hard to believe a few days ago it was shorts and tshirt weather.....

North Carolina basketball coach Roy Williams, a member of the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame, is retiring after 33 seasons and 903 wins, UNC announced Thursday. Williams, 70, is scheduled to address the media in a formal press conference at 4 p.m. ET on Thursday.

Williams began his college career first as a player at North Carolina under Hall of Fame coach Dean Smith then became an assistant on Smith's staff, where he served from 1978-1988 before taking over as coach at Kansas. With the Jayhawks, he went 418-101 from 1988-2003. He then returned to UNC in 2003.

Wherever Williams went, winning followed. As an assistant coach, the Tar Heels won a national title and advanced to two Final Fours. At Kansas as head coach, the Jayhawks went to four Final Fours and twice finished as the national runner-up. And at North Carolina, he won national championships in 2005, 2009 and 2017, adding during that illustrious tenure five Final Four appearances, eight Elite Eights, 10 Sweet 16s. The program also won three conference tournament titles and and nine regular-season championships.

Williams did this at North Carolina despite a years-long academic scandal that hung over the program and made recruiting more challenging. The scandal was finally resolved in 2017 when the NCAA decided against punishing the program. Though the NCAA determined fake classes enabled players to gain and in some cases maintain their academic eligibility, the NCAA ultimately determined no rules were broken because the classes were not available exclusively to athletes.

I did not realize there was actually a post-count threshhold at which point noobdom is transcended. That's awesome! At the other place there are no guarantees when you get your forum-posting black belt.

I can't wait to show your post to my mom. She'll be so happy not to have to drive me to the computer dojo anymore that she'll make me write a bot to automatically post over and over until I make the grade. It'll be time to leave the capsule if I dare.
