That's correct... the M1 has a finer filtering media. Many trackday folks run the K&N because it allows a higher oil pressure which is important especially when things get hot. At the end of the day your car is fine w/ any good synthetic and any decent oil filter... people way over think it typically.
These cars can go well over 200k on basic mobil 1 and a basic AC delco filter... a few people are north of 300k now w/o a rebuild.
