Methinks he did, but the $$$$ amounts back 40 years ago were a tad LESS, ya think???

The thing was the size of big suitcase and had removable platters, each about the size of an LP record arranged in a stack of six or so. I think it was 5 MB total storage. Prior to that everything had to run from 8" floppy disks.

At one point I built a small PC and added special controller board that was essentially just a bunch of relays and programmed it to be a tester to replace this behemoth. Took me a week or two and done. Last I heard they are still using it 30 years later.
Ah, the good old days. When I started in IT, we were using DataPoint hardware. For the clients who could afford hard disk drives, they we as you described. And we had clients who used the 8 inch floppy disks.

When the IBM PC AT came out, a number of DataPoint employees had developed the programming language to run on PCs. We converted a number of clients to PC based LAN systems and their computing power increased 10 fold.

Toured Kennedy Space Ct. several times. They open a door to another part of the building for you to walk into and you are face to face with the Sat V engines. Something to see in person!

Started in the '80s. First large computer system was a IBM 8100. It had 8" or larger FDD for the OS. Huge cabinets about the size freezers for HDD. The IBM CE had to replace one them one day. It weighed 70lbs. for the HDD and only stored a few MB of data.

I won’t mention which Apollo astronaut told me all 5 had gimble.

I recently started reading this book. It goes into good detail of the entire Apollo program and how they built the rocket.

It is available on Amazon.

I was inside the building at Vandenberg Air Force base where they assemble the solid rocket booster sections for the Titan IV. I had been at the base all week doing some testing of my company's products that were used on various rocket systems, and the last day there they sent us to the SRB assembly building. About 1/4 mile from the building there was a bunker/guard shack and they asked us for our wallets and any ID we had. I thought it was a strange request until it dawned on me why. If the SRB assembly building blew up, all that would be left of us was atoms. But they'd know who was in the building at least.

When you entered that building, they have you put on a metallic gold colored jumpsuit that had several places you could snap on ground wires. You had to have at least two ground wires connected anytime you got even somewhat close to the SRB sections.

The good thing about them having your wallet was when the roach coach came out at lunch time, the food was free because they had our wallets!
