"If you're sad today, just remember the world is over 4 billion years old and you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie." -Simon Pegg

It's hard to think of another artist that was as innovative and creative and effective for as long as he was and in so many mediums.

You look at a song like China Girl, which is just way out there. The last thing you would think would work in that song is a blues guitar solo from some virtually unknown guitarslinger from Texas.

Excellent tune and co-written with Iggy Pop.

There are a lot of apocryphal stories about why Bowie/Ziggy wore an eyepatch in 1974, but the truth is that he had a terrible case of conjunctivitis that gunked up his eye.

Rather than cancel shows, he just stuck an eyepatch over that sucker and went on with his life as a glamorous space pirate.

I was never a big fan of David Bowie. I did like one of his songs a lot. It was Rebel Rebel. May he rest in peace and be blessed by God.

The story always heard was about the permanently dilated pupil from a boyhood fight with his friend.

Check out this: his new video which was released just 2 days prior to this death. It seems like he was documenting his death.

The lyrics in Fame are awesome. Great tune too.
The guy was an entertainer who was able to span FOUR decades and still be a viable entertaining force. Not many can say they've done that.

Fame
David Bowie
Fame, makes a man take things over
Fame, lets him loose, hard to swallow
Fame, puts you there where things are hollow
Fame
Fame, it's not your brain, it's just the flame
That burns your change to keep you insane
Fame
Fame, what you like is in the limo
Fame, what you get is no tomorrow
Fame, what you need you have to borrow
Fame
Fame, "Nein! It's mine!" is just his line
To bind your time, it drives you to, crime
Fame
Could it be the best, could it be?
Really be, really, babe?
Could it be, my babe, could it, babe?
Really, really?
Is it any wonder I reject you first?
Fame, fame, fame, fame
Is it any wonder you are too cool to fool
Fame
Fame, bully for you, chilly for me
Got to get a rain check on pain
Fame
Fame, fame, fame, fame, fame, fame, fame, fame, fame,
fame
Fame

That might be true except for one thing: His left eye was the one with the dilated pupil and he wore the eye patch over his right eye.

Here is the song Lazarus off his latest release this past Friday.
It would appear to be his requiem...

Wow. Now that's just downright heavy..

Lots of good tunes spanning the decades.

His "real" name is David Robert Jones. He used David Bowie so he wouldn't be confused with Davy Jones of the Monkees

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Bowie
Dissatisfied with his stage name as Davy (and Davie) Jones, which in the mid-1960s invited confusion with Davy Jones of the Monkees, Bowie renamed himself after the 19th-century American frontiersman Jim Bowie and the knife he had popularised
