WTF, Wells Fargo?

We have family up in Spokane, WA. One adult kid, two grandchildren and one great grandson. Every year at Christmas, rather than buy and mail gifts for all the kids, we just send cash to the adult and he picks up gifts for the kids. Simple. He banks at Wells Fargo, so we just go the local Safeway that has a WF branch inside and deposit the money into his account.


Well they closed that branch, and so the next nearest branch is about 50 miles from here. We planned on going there today, since that's where Costco is and we were going there. That would still leave him and his wife the weekend to do the shopping for gifts for the kids.


We always bring cash to deposit so they don't hold the check until it clears, etc. So we go to the bank and they say THEY NO LONGER ACCEPT CASH FOR DEPOSIT INTO PERSONAL ACCOUNTS! They told us to go to the post office and get a money order. I mean, what the fucking hell? A bank that will not take cash?

That's odd, I just deposited a shit ton of cash money at Wells Fargo two days ago

I like Wells Fargo for no other reason that they have multiple tellers in the bank. Chase & B of A have a single teller anymore

You can't deposit cash into an account that isn't yours. Same with Chase.

It is the DUMBEST thing I've ever heard of, and none of the tellers would tell me why they are like that.

Not exactly the same, but I bought a gift certificate from a clothing store chain for infants/kids, handed them cash, and they wouldn't sell it to me without an ID. I mean, they really wouldn't sell it...I started walking out, but then relented, because I needed a gift and I was on the way to the party.

It wasn't a question of they thought the bill was fake, they just wouldn't sell me a gift card. They also wanted my phone and e-mail, and I finally told them forget it, just give me my money back, but they agreed to sell the gift card without that info. WTF?

I told them I don't want to get their catalog, which I assumed is the reason they wanted ID.

I remember as far back as the 60s Radio Shack used to ask for your name, address and phone# whenever anyone purchased anything. I understand building a customer info base for catalogs and stuff, but to make it an absolute policy and refuse a sale without it is just asinine. I guess personal info these days can be bought and sold and is a big business.

Just last month I say a TV ad for them... saying that they are "improving"

Just deposit it into your own account and use Chase Quicky Pay to send it to someone else. ez pz.

Haven't used a bank in over 25 years. We switched to the credit union, best decision we ever made in our lives. No fee checking, with interest and no minimum balance required. Great service, mobile deposit, most everything online and easy. We did a refinance online with one of our credit unions and it was smoother than the actual sale or purchase with a bank.
