Default Driving marathon

My friend who left the Keys Monday morning just called me to let me know he made it to Sacremento. Drove 3300 miles in 54 hours. Took 75 up to 40 and then 40 all the way to Cali.

Said he slept for only five hours in a rest area.

Wow, that's nuts! My RLS would make me pull over every two hours! It would take me a week to drive out there.

On the way home after the Katrina gig, I drove like 10.5 hours from Houston in the city limits, to Jax Florida....think the average was 70 mph....

I've driven straight through from the Gulf Coast of Texas to Los Angeles, 26 hours I think. I was 18, it would take me 3 days now.

Where is Sacremento? Is it by Sacramento?

Tell him to give me a call and I will buy him a beer.

A bit longer than my record but it sounds about right. One of the many worthless talents I have is I am a driving machine. Couple years ago the Mrs and I took a day trip to Magic Mountain. We got up around 5am, picked up a rental car and drove down there, spent all day at the park, ate dinner and I drove home. I was exhausted when we left but after about 30 minutes behind the wheel I was thinking "if I can make it to Barstow, I'll pull over for a little cat nap", then "well, now maybe I can make it to Baker", then it became "hell, I've made it this far, no problem making it the rest of the way".
Farthest I made it in a single day was from Memphis, TN (home, at the time) to Gallup, NM. That's 1150 miles in a single day (17 hours) of driving.

In the days of black beauties (1973) got from T- Neck N.J. - L.A. in 47 hours in a 69 GTO........but I had a co-driver. No stops, just gas/ water/ urination.

That's what happened to me too, just kept going like the energizer bunny!
That and I didn't feel like dropping 130$ for a room to sleep in!

Best I've done was Minneapolis to South Houston (1185 miles) in 16 hours, including fuel & food.
