If he added that part after your reply then why does it appear in the text you quoted?

One thing that hardly ever gets mentioned is Delp’s tone. Everybody talks about his high range but high notes without tone sound like shit. What makes it brilliant is that he can sing high E in full voice with the same rich tone. Unless you are a singer you might not know how insanely difficult that is. Most singers switch to what is called “head voice” for high notes (not as high as falsetto - it’s between chest voice and falsetto). Head voice relies on a more nasal sound and less air movement.

Not Delp. He hits it HARD with full chest voice and full tone. And he sings LOUD.

Singers like Elton John or Don Henley sing very nasally and very softly. It sounds huge because of electronics and compression plus very expensive ribbon mics. The reason you can’t sing in full voice hitting high notes is that the Venturi effect closes the vocal cords. This creates a vocal break or crack. Like a teenager whose voice is changing.

So singers with formal technique learn to shift air through the nasal passages and sing softly to hit the notes. Think about how nasally a Robert plant gets at his high range. Same with Steve Perry and Steven Tyler, Sammy Hagar, et. Al.

Delp could sing in full voice, switch to falsetto, to head voice and back without changing tone or throttling air. It really is super human.

Aerovette can speak to this. If you aren’t a singer you might not get this. That’s why Delp is at the top of the heap. Tone, control, technique and taste. He’s the entire package.

Inaccurate.........I said More than a feeling was the greatest one song performance of all time..........then I said "if not the greatest" ......then I said "arguably top 5", still never absolutely claiming greatest ever, but leaving room for argument.....you are the one that turned it into some kind of pissing match with not a single shred of evidence to the contrary of any of the proposed positions; simply because basically i guess you can't read and understand the English language competently.

I wouldn’t put More Than A Feeling in my top ten.

Better?

As to Boston, Tom Scholz, was a genius and invented his band's own studio electronic gear that pioneered much of what is still used today in studios. Not counting being a huge musical/lyrical talent.

I would rather listen to Neil Diamond than Boston. And I am not discounting those guys electronic or musical talent. I just think their recordings are pedestrian.
