I’ll turn 77 in a couple of months, Steve. Graduated high school in 1964.
Lake pipes (real or fake) were very popular and very common to see. Open exhausts were illegal in Northern Virginia where I lived but guys would cross the bridge over to Maryland and uncap their pipes which was legal there. In addition to fake lake pipes, fake teardrop spotlights and fake dual radio antennas were popular, too. Take care, Steve |

Yep, I'm younger than you, but I do remember all of those things. Along with fuzzy dice, Betty Boop, and so much more. Flashbacks to a time in history, for sure.

I'd call that "period correct," Steve. Your C6 in front?

No sir, my wife’s C6. It’s a 2012 Grand Sport 6-speed with just 14,000 miles. She does let me drive it.
Take care, Steve |

The term “lake pipes” was immortalized by the Beach Boys’ “Little Deuce Coupe”.
There are two explanations that I know of as to how they got that name. One is they were manufactured by a company called Lake Manufacturing. The other is they were used for runs on the dry lakes of Southern California. I guess the difference between side pipes and lake pipes is that lake pipes are plumbed into the car’s standard (mufflers) exhaust system but can be uncapped when you want open exhaust. You can still buy 60” lake pipes from Speedway Motors. Take care, Steve |
