Rupert, our rescued Old English Sheepdog, received the final ride of his life.
When it was time, he received a big-assed char-broiled, sirloin steak, medium-well, cut into bite sized pieces, and an entire package of OREO cookies on his final ride. That was 14 years ago. I miss him and still cry.

And too boot Chuck next door had to put down his little pooch about 10 daze ago, so he takes the time to walk Ernie's little pooch in the mornings/afternoons.....Ernie has lost sense of balance, can't take the pulling on the leash......

Took Loki to the vet a couple of weeks ago. While I was there, another couple were bringing in a chocolate lab for his final visit. Poor dog could barely walk.

Putting one down is always tough - because there is always that nagging doubt about whether it is the right time or not. We lost one to cancer a couple of years ago, and just adopted another this past January.
We've lost several dogs to illness over the years, and it never gets easier. They're your fur baby, your friend, your companion, your family. I have no doubt that you'll grieve and have a hole. Please consider giving another rescue a home when the time is right for you so they may live the awesome life you've given this guy all these years. My prayers are with you and the family. They're with the pup too, but he'll be waiting for you. |
