Dish vs DirecTV
Okay. Has anyone had one and switched to the other?
We just had a brand new roof put on and I wanted to have the dish remounted on the ground vs the roof. Of course Direct can't have a tech here until Thursday. So I called Dish and the service is $50 a month less and they will be here on Monday to install. Right now it is quiet without a TV to catch some shows on. |

I went from Dish to Direct.
It'll take you a minute to get used to the channel guide, but after a while, it's no problem. Not a deal breaker, but I did like Dish's channel guide better. I also switched cell phone service to AT&T with the package. I got 1 FREE I-phone 7 just for switching. I pay $71.49/ mo. all in for Direct TV for 2 years with the Choice, (2nd tier) service. No HBO, Cinemax, or any of those channels, just Choice. I pay $135/mo. for AT&T cell service. 3 smart phones and a stupit phone. (Mobile Share Advantage 3gb). That was all a package deal for signing up for a two year contract. Direct TV works better than Dish did for some reason. The I-phone is a $1k item, so I thought that I did well. What's your deal ? |

Many years ago I had Dish here, and it had more dropouts than a HS Prom.....every time a cloud went by....pole in the back yard..
went to Direct Sat...pole in back yard....they won'd do roof installs anymore around here because of wind/storm damage....Direct was more stable on signal loss, but still did drop out in bad storms.... Finally gave up on ATT because about 3 years ago, a series of Thunder storms came through here that summer, and the ATT twisted pair run underground along the back fence line....lightening on the trees took out FOUR modems and #5 took them a damn WEEK to fix it.....no computer, no TV, just rabbit ears... Gave up and back to Comcast/Xfinity......fed by power poles, not underground....and then to Direct TV NOW, which is over the .net streaming....but that has it's own set of problems.....so after fighting all the streaming issues here for nearly a year, I gave up and just a few daze ago went back to Comcast TV box, and so HD and no drop outs....on the LRm set the back set is still streaming, not watched near as much.... |

We've had both in the past and I wouldn't say one is any different than the other. I'd go with the best deal.
Always be nice to your installer. I always offer them cold drinks, etc. Dish guy gave me three HDMI cables for free |

My Direct TV installer gave us two remotes for every TV in the house. He also gave me his cell phone number and said he lives close by and to call him personally if there's any problems. Smart thing for him to do. If there are all problems he gets a chance to fix it without the boss knowing about it. Never had any problems, by the way.

We have Direct TV, and there is an issue if you have a 4k TV. It will lose internet connection. If I enable it, it will work for 7-10 days, then when you turn the TV on, you get nothing except for a message that it can't connect to the internet via the DVR.
I've called them several times to get updates on the bug, but nothing yet. The only way for me to fix it is to disconnect the DVR from the internet, which means we lose the ability to On Demand programing. |

You may have the installer not give you a high signal with the antenna. I rarely have it go out even in a heavy downpour but in heavy clouds it will pixelate at times.

I went from one to the other several years ago. About 3-4 years ago i realized most of the channels I watch were local or over the air so I discontinued it all. Bought one of those stupid antennas you see on tv for $19.95 and been fine ever since

I had Dish years ago, and had liked them. I switched to UVerse and then to DirectTV. Overall I'll likely go back to UVerse.
Overall they're all pretty much the same, I just like the guides on UVerse better than the others. I'm not a fan of Comcast either, but the voice remote is pretty cool I must admit. |
