Nope, it's dead (pun intended) when you buy/sell the vehicle. Which leads to waiting forever to tag the vehicle when you transfer the title. A lot of people just leave the tag on and drive it anyway til they get the title back. Just don't get caught with it. NC has got to have some of the most f'cked up DOT laws.
