I've been following this. I'm a huge CW enthusiast and especially photography. It's hit/miss and mostly miss from all the feedback I've read. I'm on several FB CW photography specific pages and follow all of it. Maybe it will improve...but, most soldiers had facial hair that hides any unique features and both Union and Confed. had some uniformity with their uniforms. Just not enough unique data in my opinion to isolate to a specific person. Someone even posted a tintype of a soldier that I swear looked like my gg-grandfather to me and when I posted a side by side comparison everyone that responded couldn't see a resemblance.

Decades ago, up north, a buddy's father bought an old farm/house/yard/wall in Northern Va. not so awful far from DC......and so Joe went around the place because of it's CW implications, and sure enough he started looking through old CW photos, some guys standing in a row in front of a stone wall.....
he looked at the pix again, took it with him to the farm, and walked out to the wall, and it matched the photo exactly, pretty much, with damn few exceptions....terrain, stones, positions, height, tone of coloration, it was a B&W photo after all, that is about all I know from a conversation with him..... He was a fellow ET, TV repair tech, with his own shop..... |
