I could pick up Wolfman Jack (before he became famous). Crazy
Wolfman Jack. Great entertainment, great music.
Into the early '70's, too. He broadcasted on Los Angleles XPRS 1090, the "Ten-Ninety Express'' on 50,000 watt transmitters located across the boarder in Mexico. After a certain hour, the station would switch to the flame-thrower transmitters, which used a beam antenna pointed north/south. I could pick it up in Oakland, CA, and a friend of mine who I didn't know at the time used to listen to him up in Idaho. I heard my first real R&B on his "Soul Patrol". This was 50+ years ago.
There was even a song in the '80's, IIRC, about 'Mexican Radio', which references this. We could also get 64KFI out of LA 400 miles away late at night and KCBS out of San Francisco when we were traveling east of Fallon, Nevada. The first time I heard the Beatles, Stones, Doors, etc. was all on AM radio back in the day. And really old guys remember what the CD diamond on the radio dial in two places was for. I remember these, the funnest party was going a gazillion miles an hour and waiting for the last person to fall off.
Usually the fall offs were brutal, but who cared, you got up and did it all over again.

I had a much-wealthier-than-me buddy who got this, dood never left his house for months.
I played it once, kicked his ass, he never invited me back to play.

Where I grew up.

Two of my cousins, the one on the left is my age, the younger one will be 68 this year.

That is my uncle's '57 Buick behind them.

I remember having to mow the lawn with a push mower like that. It had inertia action on the blades. Wooden dowel, just like the one in the picture. Then, as an adult, used one I picked up at a flea market at my first home with a small lawn. Never again. Remember the sound they made like yesterday. Your Uncle was slack on keeping the chrome shiny on his Special.

My dad just used that hand mower for small patches, he had a regular mower for the lawn itself. That hand one was impossible for a kid to push.

That pik was taken in probably 1959, going by my younger cousin, so cameras were not so great back then. The Buick was a 4-door hardtop Roadmaster --as I recall. It was loaded, "full power," so it must have been.

This is the most free that I ever felt as a kid. Closest to flying.
