That sucks, and I know what that's like.
Now have a 20kW Generac, will power everything in the house and garage.

I installed a tokamak fusion reactor in my basement that produces 1.21 gigawatts, that's plenty of power to run my whole house whenever the power goes out.

We do have it serviced every year
Default factory test time is 2pm on Wednesday. Runs for about 15 minutes then shuts off. Thats more to test out the system than a battery charge. Our system has a built in battery tender and for the cold winter months a winter protection package for the battery. I have a service contact on ours and they come up the end of October. We can see -30F here so if we get a long time power out it could get interesting. We have went through a 35 hour generator run at 15F and all was well.

NOTE, they use a bit of oil. I shut mine down after a 15 hour run, check and put in oil (mobile1) then restart. Yes there is a low oil shut off but I would rather be in control and shut it down when I want to!

I have to say (knock on wood) that since PEPCO buried our utility lines outages are rare.

Does that help the dead hookers decompose faster?

I just got home from the hospital I volunteer at. They are doing a massive solar project there. The first structures went up since I was there last week. Basically they are putting carport structures over most of the parking lot covered with panels. Think like the structure over the gas pumps at a gas station. Probably will be the equivalent of several football fields of solar panels. Nice thing for me is I will get to park in the shade when I'm there.

I call those show panels. They will never pay for themselves because of the cost of the structure. It will look good on their Public Relations website tho.

Amazing you would draw that conclusion with the little bit of info I gave containing no hard statistics.

pfft. My friends house had seven.

🤔 It might have been six. Four biguns and two littler. Three people in the house. They “downsized” (relative term) because it cost too damn much to heat/cool.

We have those at our facility. They were installed during the ARRA era. 250KW at the cost of $200K. Payback is 65 years. So, I don’t need statistics. I know what the basic cost of installing those structures were 10 years ago.

My AC bill was less in my new 5000 sqft house then it was in my 1600 sqft rental.

Efficiency.

How do you know what kind they are? The ones they are installing look different than those in your picture, which is not surprising if those were installed ten years ago. Do you know how much electrical power costs here? Do you know how much they spend on propane to run generators 24/7 to power the place during a power outage? Do you know what the price of propane is in our area? Do you even know our location and how many days of sun we get per year? Do you know the square footage of the hospital? Do you know what kind of battery storage they are putting in? And have you seen their public relations website? Do you know if they even have one? I guess you could look it up, except you don't even know the name of the hospital.

And in the case of a hospital, you may want to consider that just closing until the power is turned back on is not a viable option like it would be for some other businesses. Have you considered that in our area the possibility of an earthquake and/or fire can close the only three access roads through the mountains for days or even weeks? Then what happens when no more propane can be trucked in to run the generators?

Last year we had to evacuate and close the hospital because of the fire threat. Aside of the inconvenience and even danger to the patients, it cost over a million dollars to restock and inventory the entire place. Not to mention the cost of transporting the evacuated patients, some by helicopter. Everything that was time or temperature sensitive had to be accounted for and discarded and replaced. It was a massive undertaking.

And I'd be willing to bet technology in solar panel efficiency has changed somewhat in ten years.
