Default Finally Test Drove a C7 This Weekend

My goodness...very impressive. Tight, responsive, fast. I didn't care for the stick...still prefer an auto...but it was smooth and the rev matching is a great feature. Interior is definitely a huge improvement from the C6 (which I didn't think was all that bad).

Added it to the list of cars to be considered. I still think the Jaguar sits at the top, but the C7 warrants consideration.

EDIT: Not really a test drive as it belonged to a friend.

Any car lover with an extra 60 grand laying around would be crazy not to own one.

I'm kinda diggin' the new Jag as well. It's going to be a tough decision next summer.

the new LT1 - being direct injected - allows the torque to be available at much lower RPM's. The new LT1 puts more torque at idle - than the famed boxster engine does at peak.

With the new 8sp auto; there is no longer any advantage (time wise) in the 1/4 mile with the manual shift.

Granted; if one roadcourses... then the manual shift might still have an advantahge.

FYI:

Quote:
Ferrari no longer mfgrs cars with manual shift trannies.
Ferrari’s last two cars with stick shifts rolled off the assembly line in 2011. Both were Ferrari 599s for Hong Kong buyers, likely ordered with an eye toward future collectibility.

Why Lamborghini Trashed the Manual Transmission
With the launch of the new Huracán and retirement of its Gallardo model, Lamborghini has now also sold its last stick shift.

I already knew that the C7 would be a great ride. I'm just not sure I want Corvette number FIVE.

Completely different feel with a rear engine vs. a front engine. The Gallardo darted around quite nicely but was extremely rough and there's no option to change the suspension feel. Acceleration was on a par, but the Lamborghini wins in the sound department.

Super exotics are not on my shopping list this time around however.

Which Jag are you guys thinking about? F-Type? XK? XKR? Most people here know that I'm a devoted Jaguar guy; I'm on my 5th one going back to 1986. They keep getting better and better--and faster. The hardened aluminum body caused them to shed a lot of pounds, and the XK is now down to about 3700 pounds.

The F-Type has engines from 340 HP-550 HP. The XK has 420 HP, and the XKR has 515 HP-550 HP. These engines all develop unbelievable mid-range and high-end torque. Once you experience the ride and performance of a Jag, you'll never go back to anything else. They're not too bad to look at, either....

F-Type S and the XKR. I test drove an XKR and it's really nice to look at, but I like the interior of the F-Type MUCH better (seats, steering wheel, shifter, etc.). I really don't want a second two-seater but damn...

I'm liking the F-Type as well. Wifey watched Leno review the Alfa Romeo 4C. That's going to be a great bang for the buck car too.

Had to look that one up. I guess I've been asleep for a while (re: Rip Van Winkle). $55,000 is now considered "entry level."

The F-Type has tight styling. Either the F-Type or the XKR turns plenty of heads.

Styling cues aside, the C7 is the best Corvette ever. It's amazing on the track and handles DD duty well. If you want exclusivity, it won't do well in that department.

That's just it. As nice as the C7 is, it's still mass produced and will someday be just another Vette. Not that that's bad, but it's kinda cool to have something a bit unique. I've seen many Vettes around town in the last year. I've seen maybe two F-Types.
