May have hurt the Vette
Well some of you may recall the thread about me buying the new procharger upgrade bracket as I already new the old bracket/tensioner was in need of replacing So I ordered that and it will be here Wednesday. Well Saturday night on my way back form Marble Falls a mildly modded C6Z06 got froggy ( Him me) and had to put the smack down on him. Hit a hard down shift (didn't over rev motor) into 4th smashed the gas broke loose a little, grabbed 5th and ran it out to 140 ish then settled back down and drove rest of way home.
Sunday take car out to grab something to eat I hear a very audible "machine" sound coming from motor the usual "whistle" from the motor area is being drowned out by this. I pop the hood and find a seriously chewed up belt and a ton of belt debris all under and around the motor, the tensioner is toast! I had to drive the car today and what I'm also hearing is a "whine" only under load ..meaning I can engage the clutch and it goes away. I rev the motor and you can hear it...best way I can describe it is it sounds like my buddies Vortech charger on his car while out side the car (machiney). Im not hearing anything clunking/rattling or anything else. Not feeling or hearing anything weird when I turn the car hard left or right...sooooo Im really hoping that the tensioner pulley is reallllly ****erd up causing this wierd noise and when I swap out the new stuff it goes away.....wish me luck!

Why did you shift to 5th to pull to 140? Do you have gears? My Z06 goes 146 at redline in 4th.
As for the noises... could be lots of things. You could have fragged a pulley bearing (could be most any pulley). As for the ticking it could be a bent pushrod (but that normally is caused by a bad downshift i.e. stuffing it in 2nd when going from 3rd to 4th and zinging the motor). You cold have a bad valve spring too. Might want to pull the VCs to make sure one isn't cracked. If the spring fails and the valve drops then bye-bye motor. Could have a collapsed lifter ticking too.

No ticking is present, everything sounds like a machine and or whine (comparable to a bad pulley is what the sounds all point too). Will pull a the VC's off tomorrow see whats up. I got a buddy going to pick me up and such so the car is in the garage ready to be takin apart....
I down shifted to 4th topped it out so Im guessing I was going faster then 140 (no gears ) shifted to 5th really wasn't paying attention to much to the speed. I was trying to recall what I saw on the HUD when I was typing this up I do also recall I didn't stay in 5th for all that long before I let out.

Most likely all belt related and you will like the new bracket, I love mine and I do test the limits of mine and will see how it works at the Mile next weekend

The noise that goes away when you push in the clutch could be throw out bearing related. When they start going bad, they'll make a whiny metallic noise.
