Is it just me Ben or has this winter been colder than normal?

Oh and thanks for the chicken wire over exhaust fans idea for barn, another bird was in barn yesterday trying to get out via the fan and it was running. When I finally wired up replacement for another one last week I made sure to protect it also. 15 or 20 years no issues now I've had a rash of birds being stupid.

It is 22 degrees here in Virginia and I'm getting a little tired of this cold snap. It seems to me that last year, December had a couple of really cold weeks and then the rest of the winter was relatively mild and wet. I'm hoping that to be the case this year.

I have to dig up a freeze-proof hydrant today that has failed and replace it. Not really looking forward to that job.

Article in paper yesterday concerns anyone using Duke energy especially in the Carolinas.
The did an estimate of peak useage a year or two ago and was way low compared to new estimates for theyear 2030.
The estimate peak useage to be 8 times what is is now in 2030 due to "green energy" push.
This should be a warning to us, if Duke gets their way we'll be paying some of the highest rates in the country. They had already stated in 3 years (next rate increase) that rates will double or triple. I'd bet they push for it sooner with some bullshit add-ons to bills again. We already pay a grid access fee(I'm on a co-op but Duke provides the power so subject to their bullshit).
Not not a fan of solar overall due to companies coming and going and getting stuck with a junk system and we don't have enough sustained winds for wind power. However I do believe this will accelerate my looking for an alternative. I couldn't afford a 6 or 800 dollar electric bill especially in the coming years.
It may become a generator issue for me if fuel is cheap enough, split between that and the grid.
We don't have NG here unfortunately...

Well, winter hasn't officially started yet, according to the calendar. But to your point, for the last 6 weeks or so, I've been freezing. I hate this shit.

Bear decided yesterday to grab one and run off with it to destroy the bag.
He knew exactly what he was doing the little sum beach as he snatched it and ran like the wind. I swear he was giggling.
He steals everything, nary a hat or gloves let alone a sock is safe here.
He looked at stealing my good slippers once, he must understand english as I threatened to end his life and he leaves them alone now.
