My bride and I were on Maui !!Kapalua to be precise.We got a call at 3 am from my wifes sister telling us to turn on the TV ,what we witnessed was horrifying.We were supposed to leave the following day but we got a call from Unites Airlines saying they wouldnt have any flights out for about a week.Not a bad place to be stranded but it was a bit unnerving.

I was in my home office and one of my sales reps told me to turn the TV on. Just after I turned it on I saw the 2nd plane hit.

I call my wife and told her to go to school and pick up the kids.

I had to leave for knee surgery and was breaking in the replacement driver so the radio in the truck was not on. My wife called on my company Nextel (something she will do only for serious reasons) Told me what happened and of course I put on the truck radio.

Then a while later the other tower got hit and again the wife called and asked what the hell was going on. My answer was we are now at war with somebody/someone and things are going to get much worst fast. I also told her a plane hitting the capitol was in a Tom Clancy book and best bet that is where today came from. We did our days deliveries and returned back to our now very somber yard!

FWIW I lived a couple miles from the airport, close to the main approach/departure path and the no planes flying were rather ominous.




This was the second biggie I experienced as I well remember Kennedy getting killed as I was a Jr in high school at the time!

I had gone to Vegas that weekend prior with a couple of buddies. I was just finishing up a month long fill in stint as a Production Assistant at a local TV station, and the morning of 9/11 was my first time in awhile to actually get some sleep. (I had the fill in gig as well as a full time job).

My sister was blowing up my land-line phone. I ignored the first few calls until I finally picked up. Then I turned on the TV. Words cannot describe.

In Norfolk VA attached to Afloat Training Group Atlantic. We were setting up the training mission to Puerto Rico to ride a ship for a week. I was in the Training Officers Office watching the TV as the second plane hit. I was also in there when the first tower collapsed. Never Forgive, Never Forget.

Home in San Ramon. Turned on the news and watched for most of the day.

At work, listening to the radio on my computer.
Breaking news alert for the first crash, not much said about it at first.

When the second plane hit, the DJ suspected terrorism immediately,
and then shortly after the music stopped and the station switched over to live broadcasting
from some other news source (don't recall).
Anyway, I went into a conference room and turned on a TV and watched
one of the big 3 network news the rest of the day.

I lived two miles from the Pentagon in Potomac Yards. I was a Senior Executive at the Department of Justice (Chinatown office), I was on the way to an interview on the metro for a promotion at the US Dept of Agriculture when the plane hit the Pentagon. I was directly under it and they closed that metro stop immediately and we rolled past it with no explanation. I went in a hole in the ground and came out and the whole world had changed.

I worked my way back to my office and it was amazing, total traffic gridlock in the inner city and hundreds of people wandering around with "the thousand yard stare" with cell phones stuck to their ears - that didn't work, the system was overwehlemed.

I helped establish a "war room" set up in my building collecting info working with secure lines to all of the three letter agencies....we developed manifest lists for the aircraft that crashed and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. People wre weeping at their desks as the casualty lists stacked up. And I would personally like to smack people in the face that think the whole thing was a hoax.

We were warned not to discuss it wih civilians becasue or the rumors, one rumor was that a plane loaded with anthrax was headed to Wash DC, I managed to get a call through to the wife and told her to get in the car snd drive south past Ft. Belvoir and to NOT stop unless she heard from me.. My daughter attending college at Jacksonville University spent a whole day trying to locate her Mom and I even contracting Red Cross....she reached us that night and could barely gasp out how greateful she was that we were OK between sobs.

The next day the wife and I were outside (you could still smell the smoke from the Pentagon) and not a plane was flying in/out of Reagan airport (unprecedented) and then we saw a squadron of planes roll in and I'm pretty sure it was Air Force 1 returning Bush to DC. I found out two days later an employee lost her husband in the Pentagon conflagration. The same week ALL contractors of Middle East extraction were prohibited from the building regardless of status or clearance level.

I lived through 9/11, the anthrax attacks and the DC sniper and afterwards told the wife its time to retire and get the hell outta Dodge. I retired Oct 1st 2001.

I was touring China. During a tour of one city I noticed soldiers all over, and armed. They are never armed. Tour guide checked and told us the Chinese Premier had ordered the military to protect all Americans.

I was living in St. Kitts at the time, I had just come out of the post office and heard the voice of Peter Jennings on the local radio station and immediately knew something was terribly wrong.

By the time I got to a TV 15 minutes later, the second airplane hit the second tower. 21 years later and I still can feel the horror and shock and sadness like it was yesterday. I grew up in NYC and to see that happen while so far away from friends and family was especially tough.

My heart still gets heavy and I could cry watching this stuff,but that's not so bad....I will NEVER forget that day

I was at work, turned on one of the news channels on my computer shortly before the second plane hit. Half my department was at a conference in Berlin that immediately came to an end and they spent the better part of the next week trying to get flights back home

At work in-framing a engine. Girl from shop office came out and told us what had happen. We went up to the drivers lounge and turned on the tv. Odd day when all the planes stopped flying. A co-worker's wife was in NYC that day and her Dad was in the Pentagon when it got hit. Took him over 3 hours to get in touch with her.

Related to that day. A few years later a truck came into the shop with a blown turbo. When steam cleaning oil off the side of the trailer he had all the names of the people from both towers painted on the trailer and on the cab had all the names of the fallen emergency responders. Some of the stories he told me of people stopping him and looking for the names of their love ones. Hell just remembering and writing this has blurred my eyesight.

Work. Retail. 18 years old, freshman in college. Remember being disgusted with the fat heifer housewives who just nonchalantly went on shopping. I didn't know if my Dad's flight either into or out of D.C. was one of the planes and of course couldn't get through on cell phone. Remember going to the break room and being white as a sheet. We were lucky, his flight wasn't one of them.
