I think they are called Alaskan Spot Shrimp.
Sounds good!

What you're referring to is Alaskan Spot Shrimp. They are huge and do, in fact, taste more like lobster than shrimp. They aren't cheap, though, about $40 for 20 shrimp. This place flash freezes everything on its boats, and it really taste better than "fresh" (which has spent a day on the boat, another day at the wholesaler, another day to travel, and who knows how many days at the grocers). Most shrimp are frozen before they hit the dock or shortly thereafter. Most of it is "previously frozen". Sure, I like fresh shrimp but if it was not caught at least the day before, I will take frozen over that. In a pinch, I will certainly buy frozen white (mostly farm raised) shrimp from Sams to cook with.

A little off topic but it does influence my shrimp buying. Many years ago, I had a dream that I was in a grocery store and they had fresh shrimp to go. They were huge. kinda like an all day sucker but a shrimp.

I got me one and I was walking around the store, eating one. IT was good and then I looked down at the "vein". That sucker had a diameter of about 1 inch. I put that sumbich down and I have never bought Jumbo shrimp since.

Dayum, man! Oh! You wanna meet women in the grocery store? Buy a lobster and get them to put it in a paper sack. The lobster claws at the sack while you walk around the grocery, and women just can't seem to resist asking what's in the sack.

And you say "Oh, it's just lobster. Tuesday night is lobster night at my house."

Along with this Clorox story which I don't doubt, the Asian shrimpers and restaurants use to soak shrimp in a powdered Borax and water mix, which makes the shrimp puff up and look much bigger, and sell them as such. It makes the meat almost cellulose in consistency like an Areo Bar!!!

All this stuff looks good indeed! Have you tried them? Do they definitely flash freeze on the boats? Their prices are certainly high, that fo' sho'. I can go to the Hong Kong market and buy live Dungeness crab, big ones, for like $15 each if I remember right. Might not have been that much. This place wants $40/crab and they are already cooked. Do the prices include shipping? Gonna go back to the website and look some more. I'm gettin' hungry!

Yep, I've tried them. They're my primary supplier of seafood; I almost always order Spot Shrimp, halibut, and scallops. My typical order is 4 bags of shrimp, 4 bags of scallops, 8 pieces of halibut. About $175 incl. shipping.

No, the prices don't include shipping; I think it's $35 for overnight. They definitely flash freeze them on the boat. I think you can read about it on their web site. Very reliable people, their seafood is the best. No water-injected scallops that look big but cook down to nothing. Warning: If you try their seafood, you're hooked (so to speak).

Cool, thanks for the info. I think its worth a try on the Spot Shrimp. Yum! Found the shipping, $29.95 for 2nd day air on orders under $300.
