'07 Vette, fob, '23 Mazda fob, Vette is better.

1951 Fergie tractor: turn gas valve on, flip the ignition toggle on, pull choke, hit starter button, lol. If the temp is +10 or less, better spray starter fluid in the air cleaner before cranking.

Five cars here too (but they all fit in my garage)-- my BMW motorcycle (1972) has a nail for a key. I laugh at the stupid starter buttons on the dash that the new cars have.
My 1947 Chrysler came from the factory with one, big and chrome.
Yawn.

When I got my C6, the big button was a bit funny and brought back memories.

Back in the '60s I bought a well-used '62 Chevy II with a 4-banger that didn't run. The previous owner had a standard toggle switch under the right side of the steering wheel to turn the ignition on, and a YOOGE red "normally off" button (like one of those big industrial red "Emergency Stop" buttons) right where the key used to go to activate the starter.

I put a newer 6 in it, ran it for a year or so, sold it to my buddy and he had it for a while til the unit body came apart. Nobody ever tried to steal it, lol.

Don't even remember if the door locks worked.

My new '23 Mazda CX5 also has one. Stuff's okay I guess, AS LONG AS IT WORKS AS RELIABLY AS A ****ING KEY.

Bruze, you nailed it with the last sentence. Have seen too many people paying $165 and up to replace a defective fob type key. Screw that. 60 Y/O keys I have still work. And don't need batteries, either. Sometimes less is really more.

Pretty sure most fobs have a key inside for emergency use.

Yes, I hate all this electronic BS. Lane warnings on my new car that vibrates the wheel, but if I shut it off it stays off forever, which is good. Unlike most things coming back on when you start the car again with most makes.

All of this tends to make drivers less attentive to what they should be doing. And of course, the more complex any system is, the more things there are to go wrong.

With C6s, the key will only get you into the hatch, where you can pull the cable to open the driver's door. But you cannot use the key to start it.

Mazda is the same way, key only good for doors.

Per GTO's comment about old keys: I've had keys a few lives ago that were so worn you'd never think they would work. But they did.

Going to your local hardware store to cut a new key was like 50¢ -- **** that, priorities! Beer was 70-80¢ per six pack.

EXACTLY. The more complex and automated cars become, the worse the drivers get. If an event occurs like a skid or failure of the automatic antilock brakes, etc, the new driver will have no skills on which to rely to save himself. One reason my old '61 is so much fun is that it is manual everything. The only 'power' option it has is the dual 4 bbl carbs.

And who needs those silly ignition immobilizers either? It's not like anybody would ever want to hotwire and steal a classic Gran Turismo Omologato or anything.
