Joe Diffie RIP

Country star Joe Diffie has passed away at the age of 61, after complications from coronavirus. His family shared the news on Sunday afternoon.

Diffie announced on Friday March 27, that he had tested positive for the virus, sharing an update with fans. “I am under the care of medical professionals and currently receiving treatment. My family and I are asking for privacy at this time," he wrote. "We want to remind the public and all my fans to be vigilant, cautious, and and careful during this epidemic,"

Diffie rose to Country stardom during the 1990s, placing 5 songs at number one on the Country chart between 1990 and 1996, including "Home", "If the Devil Danced (In Empty Pockets)", and "Third Rock from the Sun." Diffie released 11 albums over the course of his career. His final LP, All in the Same Boat, arrived in 2013 and was a collaboration with Sammy Kershaw and Aaron Tippin.

In 1993, Diffie was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry. The multi-platinum singer was nominated for 2 GRAMMY Awards, including a win in 1999 for Best Country Collaboration for his work on "Same Old Train."

In addition to his success in the world of Country music, Joe Diffie was also a philanthropist, raising money for the education of mentally and physically impaired children. He was honored with the Humanitarian Award from the Country Radio Broadcasters in 1997, for his work on their behalf.

Diffie is survived by five children and his wife, Tara.
