Huh? A dress code is either whatever the boss says it is, or a document officially drafted up within a company. Either way, unless a law specifically states otherwise, you can be fired for any reason. There's no law protecting the wearing of team ties in any state that I'm aware of.

It's not like firing him because he doesn't go to your church because there are laws pertaining to religion and its effects on hiring and firing.

If I was cynical, I'd say this was merely a publicity stunt put on by the dealership, and we should expect to see the guy "rehired" within the week.

Although, as cutthroat as the car business is today, perhaps that won't be the case. There are plenty of folks that lost their jobs when GM and Chrysler shuttered all those dealerships that would be willing to wear whatever the Hell kind of tie the boss wants to have a job.
