Default Pull up dammit!

I have noticed that many drivers when coming to a stop at light controlled intersection will sit back one half to a full car length behind the white stripe. WTF? Are they afraid to pull up all the way?

They don't creep up to the line at all. They just stay back there.

I am greatly annoyed.

It's worse when they wind up behind the inductive loop sensor in the road, so the light takes longer (or forever) to change.

I hate that too because then the damned light won't change at a lot of our intersections. That, and what Scissors posted.

There is a stoplight at a super busy intersection on my drive home, that I come in on the less busy side. Up until a week ago it had the sensors, and would switch rather quickly when you pulled up. Now they decided to put in new lights, no sensors, and now I have to sit there almost 5 minutes waiting for it to change.

Nothing wrong with that. I'd prefer to to minimize my chances of being sandwiched to death simply because the guy behind me got rear-ended.

At least in VA many lights have both the inductive loops and small cameras mounted on the lines that hold up the traffic signals. The cameras watch to see if a vehicle is sitting there (really helps with motorcycles) in order to trigger the light.

If the car behind me can't see my rear wheels touch the ground, they are too close.

Is there a red light camera at that intersection? If so, that may be the reason people are using extreme caution there. Cross the white line with the front bumper, get a bill in the mail..........

The system doesn't quite work like that.

But seeing as we don't have any red light cameras in my area and people still do it, I'm going to go with the "they're douchebags who shouldn't have licenses" theory.

Don't have that problem here to often. All the Massholes have no clue about stop lights and stop signs and go through them all the time.

I'm just wondering what their thinking is. I'm tempted to roll down my window and ask.

I hate the amateur proctologists who drive in my neighborhood.

I do that all the time. Reason is, I'm 6'1 and the roofline is low and I can't see the traffic light. Besides, what's the big deal, you're not going to get the light to change any sooner.

Possibly. I'll have to check, but I don't think so.

It matters if you're far enough back that you aren't on the sensor, or if the sensor is calibrated incorrectly and only triggers when there are two or more cars above it.
