Default Vararam Intake

I orderd a Vararam Intake for my 01 vert. Just wondering if anyone in the barn has installed one of these things? I'm planning to put it on this weekend and could use any advise or insight you might want to share.

Thanks.

Thanks! That is very clear and it doesn't seem difficult. I guess I'll install it on Friday morning!

Good Luck, and when you have stuff apart, it is a great time to clean out some of the accumulated junk.

Just checking in to see how the install went, it may be a little early still. Run out of band-aids yet?

I don't think you can have too mnay band-aids when doing a vararam system.
I prefer the Vortex Ram Air system. Get the same outside air without the blood loss.

Hey Bill, It was nice to meet ya at Cars & Coffee this morning, the vert is looking nice.

Once you get the screens in, it will look sweet!

The guy in the blue and white Le Mans shirt is Lee (leec4ce) and he is retired vbfd.

Likewise it was nice to meet you and some other the others this morning.

After I left the cars & coffee outing, I took the vert/vararam out for a "break-in ride" and my check engine light came on and then it threw a couple codes so I'll have to take a look at the vararam connections/MAF mount again later this week. I'd guess just a leak in one of the clamps/tubes...

Its always something but frankly I enjoy working with it.

I don't know how much you drove it before your "break in" drive but I think it's going to throw a code until the PCM recalibrates for the new amount of deliciously cool air. I think it takes like an hour of driving or something like that and at higher sppeds.

Congrats on your install.

Yeah yeah, your fingers hurt, blah blah......
We wanna know about the bloodshed, and carnage man!
They are a real PIA, but worth it to get that cool air into the motor.

Did my '01 zo6 this spring and posted " you need extra bandaids ". I thought the fit was difficult and flimsy...but...after getting it together, everything firmed up and it was snug and secure. First time I cranked - with engine cold - you could hear air sucking 100 ft. away ! Dyno went from 332 to 341 rear wheel and tune got it up to 351. That thing doesn't show on dyno much but does its thing from 60 mph up....

You can't duplicate the effect of a ram air induction on a dyno. Unless you dyno your car behind an airboat!

Shouldn't you be trolling a Vortex thread somewhere?

Today I moved the MAF back to its originial position and went back to the stock power duct dumping the vararam pro until I can play with this abit more. So after driving it around, there are no codes or "check engine" light. So success with the Vararam Intack yet its tempered with more to learn and testing to accomplish.

Update: Vararam is sending a replacement Power Duct (Free) to replace the one I tried installing which didn't work. It seems the original one is defective.

That is service! BTW: The ram air with the stock air bridge works great! You can really feel the change once you getup over about 40 mph and about 4,000 rpm.

Glad you got it working for you, but countless stories like this are why I avoid the Vararam and never recommend it. This install is a PITA, the product quality/fit is hit or miss and most have to deal w/ check codes etc. I had a BPP Vortex Rammer on my old yellow car for many years and have a Halltech Venom on the red car.

That said, anything is better than the anemic stock airbox. FWIW the aftermarket air-bridges add no power. You're perfectly find to run the stocker w/ the accordian duct to the Vararam unit.

Next up you'll be shopping longtubes

There is a specific "learn" process that came with mine. Never any codes. ...Something like 5-6 normal upshifts with easy acceleration followed by 3 drag strip type runs.
