Small pickup thoughts.....
Looks like we sold wife's Miata, and so we need a small pickup for light home repair/cleanup duty.....
extended cab needed, bed length non critical....need with 4 cyl I suppose, automatic, a/c of course, power steering too.....wife will be driving sometimes...so it has to be used/older not over 2 grand in cost.... what are your recommendations guys??? thanks GENE Last edited by mrvette; 06-03-2013 at 10:08am. |

If the bed is not important, why do you want a truck ?

incompatible search terms.
cheap: standard cab quad cab: not cheap (not 2k) old and cheap: sucky gas mileage. doubt you will find any 4 bangers with a crew cab. had an old Sonoma, standard cab, short bed, 4 cyl. time to change some of your parameters. |

Small p/u not going to haul 4x8 anything easily, could fit a prehung door in it though, need CC for tool security, constantly load/unload 200 tools gets to be too much....
want RWD for maintenance simplicity....FWD anything is just a damn nitemare to work on.....and I have even less of a clue as to what to buy....need something with at least a 1/2 assed rep for decent drivetrain, and that lets out most of the FWD stuff I know of..... |

Chevrolet didn't make a crew cab half ton in '96. Are you talking about an extended cab? If so, you can probably find a 4 cyl S10.

Ok, extended cab...the silverado has a seat in back, but just the two main doors, I have heard of sometimes 'suicide' doors in back...maybe just one side??

I would try your local Craigslist....I have bought and sold a few things on CL here in the Knoxville area with good results.

I'd go with an extended cab ranger, although at that price you'd be looking at clapped out work trucks with 200k miles and up.

I've got a '97 Sonoma SLS extended cab, it's got 165K miles on it and passes emissions every year. The gas gauge doesn't work, but that's about it. I've replaced the alt, AC comp, water, PS pumps all at least once. I use it on weekends or when I have to drive to a jobsite. It's been very reliable. Gets 16 in town, but when I was driving it back and forth from Atlanta to Boeing in Charleston I was getting 22-24. I wouldnt want to ride in the jumps eats. It's a black step-side with a black shell on the bed; I get more compliments on it than I do on my vette or Infiniti.
