whenever i win an auction for next to nothing the "pre-set" shipping is outragious and my deal ends up costing me a ton.

I bought some brand new rollerblades for 5$ and they cost me 60$ by the time they got here.

I always check out shipping costs before bidding. Some folks gouge on the shipping costs ( way beyond packing supplies costs )

Not an ebay score but from a vintage forum I'm on. A Rock Island #74 vise. Weighs 70 lbs and opens to 8"

Not bad for $75

Sweet find. Will last you for ever.

It was just like family and went home with you

I just used it the other day and saw it has the depth feature on the backside too

Used it yet? Grinding a bit on the grinder is a kind of 'hold-yer-tongue-just-right' art. Took me a while to learn to take some meat off the bit behind the edge of the flute, or you are just going to rub whatever it is you're trying to drill.

Won the auction yesterday and got shipping notice today. I'll rough them in by hand on the bench grinder and finish them on the drill doctor so they cut correct size.

Very nice tool. Will be interesting to see how accurate it is.
I get really sick of buying new drills every few years.
Even with thinner gauge metal and water wetting, the bits get too hot and dull up quickly.

Drill Doctors seem like pretty good machines. I bought one once, sharpened all of my random eleventy hundred bits, & it started acting funny, so I returned it. I guess I'll replace it when enough bits start to get dull again.

You can get new diamond grinding wheels for about $20

I used it on a 33/64" ( .5156 ) SML* drill tonight. It looks good, I'll drill something tomorrow night to see what size it drills.

*Screw machine length. A shorter drill than standard ( which is a JL / jobbers length )
