I'd normally be interested, but I think I'd have to take a 2nd mortgage out to be able to afford the gas on that long of trip. I had a 1997 7.3 powerstroke, but I cored out the orig injectors for some hot rod race ones and it never ran quite right after...that and 650 lb/ft of torque took out the trans after 2 or three weeks. It got expensive. Had I just stopped at the (smog legal) banks kit, I'd still be driving that Ford until the end of time like Uncle Jessie from the Dukes of Hazzard.

The 460 eats gas like it's going out of style. Empty I get about 13-14 on the highway.....towing it gets down to 8 mpg. On the other hand, it's paid for and never breaks....and no more than I drive it, no big deal. In the 10 years I've owned it, I put on a master cylinder, a power window motor, and a dual tank switching valve canister. It had a stumble on the 2-3 upshift when towing, so I had a local shop built me a stout trans and torque converter last year too. I'd drive it anywhere with no worries. Here's why I want a diesel. This is the elevation increase in 16 miles. There's one stretch between Sunspot and Timberon that is a 9% grade for a mile at 9800' elevation. Towing the trailer, I'm in low gear at 20 MPH with my foot almost to the floor. Coming back down, it's in 2nd gear with me nursing the brakes the whole way down. |

Shat a hummer gets 8 MPG. In 2004 a Marine within our Battalion bought a AWD Land Rover and it gave him 8 MPG. Your Ford F-250 rocks with that 460. My DD is 10 years old this week. I'm the original owner, if I was a CF nOOb then this would be that car's facts. Original owner=more value, and 10 years old=classic. |

Heck I've been trying to sell/give away my moneypit because I'm tired of working on it. I'll not buy another abused beast because it is such a deal....
Then I wandered over to Bill's area yesterday and by the time I got done riding and watching all the 'vettes on the track I'd decided a ragged vette is better than none... Goodbye, craigslist |

I don't know if the OP ever got his truck or not, but here's a thought. If you know someone with a dealers license that is willing to bid for you at one of the various car auctions you can come up with some deals at times. Right now there a 2010 DODGE RAM 2500 Diesel with 20K and asking buy it now is under $40K (just one example).
That's how I was able to pick up my 86 last week, it was at the N.M. car auction. It's not without it's risks but with proper research it can pay off. |

Well you degenerates, Marco's buyer (Glen) will be joining us soon at the Barn. I'd ask you to be gentle with a n00b, but I know that ain't gonna happen.....so in lieu of that, I've warned him that this place is like wandering into a biker bar wearing a Justin Bieber shirt (isn't JB Canadian? ) for a n00b.

Unfortunately he is, but fortunately he spends more time stateside.
On the other hand, you must really hate Marco's new owner to ask him here. I promise to be on my best behavior, but as for the rest of the degenerates here, well it could be open season on the nOOb |
