My least favorite thing about the C5/C6 platform is that you really need a lift to work on it. A lot of disassembly is required for things that are easy on other cars. If you don't have an air ratchet, taking that cover off sucks.
I did my clutch twice on my back in the driveway and it is not fun. I did it twice on the lift, much easier.
I also had to swap the diff, used the lift, swapped a torque tube, used alift, swapped a trans, used a lift, and swapped a motor, used the lift. I really need to stop taking this car apart.

Tell me about it... I do my underside work on jack stands, and I don't have an air ratchet, but may consider getting one today.

It will take you less time to go to the store, buy a ratchet and come home, than it will to remove and install all those stupid bolts by hand.

At least it's nice a warm so you can work on the car in the driveway.

truth.

When I swapped the carrier in my 2002; half the work was removing the tunnel plate... and the half-a-million bolts that holds it in place.

I predict a thread about buying a lift in your near future.

I can take the entire drivetrain out of a Stingray and reinstall it in less time than a tranny swap takes in a C5/C6. They have nothing in common whatsoever. There are no U-joints, the driveshaft is inside the torque tube with splined ends, so you need to remove the transaxle assembly to get the clutch out.

This is the easiest way to swap the drivetrain, body off the frame.

The cover.

Torque Tube with cover removed.

If you are just doing the trans, you can lower just the rear cradle and leave the motor in.

NASA inspired super high tech engine support system. If you don't support the motor, it hits the firewall and breaks stuff.

My lift has saved me many a sore back. I LOVE my lift, even if it's a baby compared to others. I can easily use a creeper to do my under work.

I wish I had the height to do that. Instead I have a mini lift for my mini car.

Jack midway under the door, swap both wheels. I am actually pulling the engine out of my C5 this weekend (again) and going from the top this time. Should be interesting.

Scott and I got the exhaust dropped and the tunnel plate removed. We also got the old cable removed. New cable is broken, so I'm on hold until tomorrow. Have to take the new one back (along with the old one), to show them the plastic piece that is actually two pieces. Old cable still in 1 piece.

All being said, the repair is not too difficult. Was good to have Scott into my home for the first time.

Thanks for the ride to the dealership Scott. BTW, drove the race car again tonight before putting it away and the electrical gremlins showed up again.

99.9% sure the ECM needs to be replaced.

Jack stands worked just fine. Scott hooked my 18v Dewalt drill up with a chuck that fit the 8mm socket needed to take them out.

But YES, I want a lift beyond belief.

Yeah man, was good to meet everybody; except that bird. Thing was louuuuuud .

Glad to be able to help. Thank you for the killer bacon cheeseburger and pitcher of Fat Tire.

That is a pain in the arse. Hope somebody can help you trouble shoot the issue. I'm pretty good with mechanical stuff, but electrical gremlins can be really tough to resolve.

I told Craig we needed my daughters little hands to unlatch the cable from its mount.
