WTF? $5k for a running truck?

Do it.

I've seen wrecked D-max's with 200k go for over $9k.

I'm about ready to turn over 200k on mine. No real issues other than normal maintenance and I've run mine very hard most of its life.

I had a hard start in below zero weather the first year that I had mine. Found 1 bad injector but replaced them all and gave me a 200k warranty to cover them.

This is a no brainer no matter what the cab configuration is.

Im worried about the time frame, he has time to talk it over with his buddies, and look online...plenty of time to realize that its worth more than 2X what he's wanting to get for it. I offered him 5K cash but he said "nah man, 2-3 weeks and Ill let it go, I got ot find a smaller truck first"

I know one of his dumb ass friends is going to blurt out what its worth if he tells anyone he is selling it...

Hand him 5k cash and tell him to deliver it with a full tank when he's ready.

I wish it got better mileage, but hell...all that HP and TQ has to count for something I guess. I think its got like 65 ft/lbs more than my 454 vortec, which is quite snappy to be a 250k mile gasser.

Whats bad is, the 2500HD is rated to tow just slightly less than my 3500 Dually..
For light loads you won't notice but there is truly no comparison once you put some real weight behind it. I have put well over 100,000 towing miles on 454 crew cab GM duallies and the duramaxx is on another planet. Towing an enclosed car trailer up a mountain, the 454 really starts to work, usually downshifting and really grunting to get up the hill. A Duramamaxx *might* come out of top gear and downshift but otherwise breezes along like there is no trailer behind it.
When I bought my F250 5.4 gas motor truck, I priced the GMC diesel and it was almost 100% more, which I just couldn't justify for what is a third vehicle. You could get the F250 for about 25K but the GMC was pushing 50K.

Ford never had the issues Dodge did with their Automatics, but the 4-spd Auto in the Ford was nowhere near as stout as the 5-speed that replaced it. They were at least good for 100-150K miles, which is more than the typical Dodge ever saw out of the original Automatic.

I'm a huge fan of Ford SD's,but I've long lamented that GM pickups had the better powertrain since the D-Max/Allison combo came out.

With most of what bear has to say, but I know a lot guys who had issues with the R100's, especially behind the V10's.

****. If he'd just shut his mouth and taken my money, id have been fine, but no..had to be a damned free thinker and explore options. **** him...no longer a freind, as far as I was concerned we were about half a step from a verbal agreement and a handshake.

MY guess is they offered him 9000 or so, book is like 13K...

I cant afford it, and im guessing his financing was contingent on the trade-in.

I really wanted it, and i really wish he'd have told me sooner, I missed out on a nice ass truck this afternoon, thinking i had 5K tied up in his deal...

Guy had a 1500HD with the 350Vortec, Z71 Reg cab long bed, good paint, ran good, 5 speed nv3500. 2000 bucks. Sold by the time I had heard from my buddy.

Im pretty sure buying a running driving Dmax for 5000 is considered rape in some states...

Red, you would roll your grandma if it meant getting a good deal on a 10 year old truck.

damn right.

I went and looked at that shitbox 2500HD with the "13 bolt" this afternoon before it got dark...wow, just....

I pull up, looks great from 15 feet away...then you start to notice oddities like...the black cowling is painted white, all of the grille is white, the condensor and radiator up front..also white. The beltline molding and side emblems are black, and the lower part of the truck is high gloss black.

The innder fenders are high gloss block, so is the exposed suspension.

I get under it..its got the 14 bolt Semi FLoater....but no ****ing front shocks, i kid you not..no shocks.

Pop the hood...its clear that they painted the truck with the grill installed, and the hood closed...the engine, the parts that are not coated in fresh oil splatter, are dusted in white.

Edges of all light lenses are white...parts of the glass and most of the rubber glass trim, is white.

I laughed....I couldnt even make an offer, i just laughed...

I don't think I've seen more than a handful of V10's- in total- for the entire time they've been out.

200k leaves a lot of gaps as far as the state of the truck.

After all the 6.0 Ford diesel issues, many out this way went to the V10's.

Reg. gas has almost always been lower than diesel here in the heart of the country.

The V10 fuel mileage sucked on a good day.
