Methinks he doesn't really want kids and is using this as an excuse.

If IVF is "playing God" then so is getting an epidural... technology exists, why not use it?

If he did feel like that, then it wouldn't make any more difference than if they adopted, which makes more sense.

Since I have no children of my own, I have no opinion. But if I WERE in this position, I would probably have an opinion. But I'm not, so I don't. It would be presumptuous of me to offer you any advice, in as much as I am not a parent, nor do I plan on ever becoming a parent.

From the perspective of other Christians, do you agree with him, or do you feel it is ok to do IVF because God gave us this knowledge?

Comments/suggestions/experiences?

Just do what we did. After couple of years of trying (and visiting with a variety of professionals), I took the wife to Hawaii for three weeks. Figured not everyone is meant to have kids, so we'd figure out some other way to spend our time and our money.

Oldest was born about 9 months to the day after we got back. The next two were like falling off a log... then I figured out what caused it.

As long as the couple is prepared for the cost & pain of IVF, I don't see why it couldn't be an option. We can look at birth control pills, condoms, fertility meds like Clomid, etc. as playing God. It's a slippery slope once you start thinking about it.

As an expectant mom, who has always wanted kids, I would be prepared to try most anything within reason. Luckily, I got pregnant with no problems the good, old-fashioned way. I don't believe, however, I would keep trying IVF multiple times. There would have to be a limit.

I'm a Christian and believe matters of conception should be left up to God.

So your wife was never on the pill, you never used any contraceptives, she never had her tubes tied and you were never snipped?

As the other half of this marriage, I agree we were lucky we got pregnant the old fashioned way. I have a friend who has been trying IVF for a while, and it's been nothing but stress for them. From 'trying' so hard to make it work, to finding the $$$ for the treatments. would be a hard choice to make.
