I wouldn't say it accomplishes nothing, it creates dialogue. Many people have no idea what their rights are and just "go with the flow".
There is a very dangerous mindset of, "well if you have nothing to hide, what's the problem?" that is leading us down a slippery slope of being OK with a police state.
