Brake fluid flush
I need to flush my brake fluid as having a bad MC cap has let some moisture in there.
Is it good enough to just bleed the brakes one caliper at a time while adding fresh fluid? Will all the moisture be driven out as the new fluid goes through? Should I worry about the ABS module? Should I switch to DOT4 or stick with DOT3? Any tips or tricks? Thanks.

Not sure how you can tell you have moisture in the fluid, but a standard bleed is one caliper at a time... I can't remember the C5 specific patter, but it's an X-pattern vs. the typical "start farthest away from the master and go... (RR, LR, RF, LF).
If you have air in the master then it can get in the ABS system and if that happens you must get a "Tech 2" bleed by the dealer which uses a Tech 2 to cycle the ABS module when bleeding to get air out. Some people say they've gotten air out by bleeding the brakes, then going for a drive and engaging ABS then re-bleeding and doing it again. As for fluid a good cheap option is Ford HD fluid.... it has a 550 dry boiling point. I have ATE superblue in the yellow car, but I used to track it. I need to flush the fluid in the red car before long and will mostly go w/ the Ford stuff.... it's good and cheap.

I wrote a little procedure when I installed SS brake lines earlier this year.
My web page: Mark's 2004 Corvette Z06 Scroll down to: SS Brake Lines, Speed Bleeder install, and Brake Fluid flush on my C5 Z06: Maybe this will help you out. Toque |
