True, but often you'll see 2 stations across the street from each other with an easy 5-10 cent swing.

Incentive that if they micro filter the fuel from a reliable supplier and make sure it doesn't have water or alcohol in it...so their customers won't mind paying a tiny bit more and keep using them for fill-ups.

Gas stations that do all this are very rare in today's culture. It is up to the consumer to do the research and most won't go to the trouble...which leads to shoddy running vehicles and higher vehicle maintenance expenses...that negates the cheaper fuel price.

It's not like they advertise they strain their gas. HTF is the average consumer supposed to know if a station filters ?

Ask the people that run the station. They are usually proud of their filter system if they went to the trouble and expense to install it. Also, if you have ever used a gas pump that was "slow", it is usually because the small filter on the pump is so dirty it won't let fuel flow pass thru at regular speed.

As far as fuel quality, if they use the cheapest fuel they can get from several suppliers, it typically isn't going to be as good or consistent as fuel from one reliable source.

I test the fuel from my regular stations by filling a translucent five-gallon jug and letting it sit for a day. Any debris or contaminates will usually settle to the bottom. The amount of garbage in the gasoline of some stations can be amazing. It is also a good way to tell if the station is cheating on fuel volume...not that any station would ever do something illegal like that to make up for their "lower-than-the-competition" pricing.

I bet most here don't even use food store price saving coupons.

BTW, what ever happen to the old gas station price wars?

I get gas at the stations along my normal routes that are on the right side of the street so I can turn in, and then get back on the road, without crossing traffic.

If I even looked at the price, it's not until I'm hitting the button on the pump.

Scissors was right on the money with the Costco comment, too.

Just got back from FL. Didn't bother price shopping.

I did, however, manage 41.668 MPG average over the 878.2 mile return trip, with speeds varying between 70 and 100 MPH on the Harley. W00t!
