Default TSA Precheck

Have any of you signed up for the TSA Precheck? We did, and my wife and daughter got approved within 2 days, but mine is still out there somewhere, and it's been a couple weeks now!! Wonder what I did?

We had the appointment 2 weeks ago. Are you saying you got approved when you got your appointment?

I couldn't schedule the appointment till I was approved (pending confirming certain details at the meeting). I left the meeting with an approved marking on my passport (globalentry) and had my card a few days later.

Have you checked your status online?

OK, that's different from what we had to do. We filed online and we got an appointment date to see a TSA rep and sign the application and pay the $85. Then it gets submitted for approval, or denial. They told us it could take a week or so to hear anything, and yes, check online. I have checked daily since the appointment, but only wife and daughter have been approved so far. We do not have passports.

I was in the first pilot program a few years after 9/11 and was automatically add tot he TSA pre due to that CF. It has made air travel less a PITA.

It took a couple of weeks until I got the actual letter but I was able to get my number on line after about a week. If you fly more than twice a year it is worth it.

Sounds like some confusion here between Known and PreCheck.

Stang and Loco sound like a Known experience. With PreCheck, you should get no card, nor any notation on your passport. The only place you should see it is on your boarding pass.

BTW, PreCheck has become routine enough for me to seek something better. Now looking at Clear.

I do somewhere between 120 and 160 legs a year, so I may be an outlier.

Correct. You do not get any kind of card or anything for your passport for Precheck. You get a letter with your KTN (Known Traveler Number) that it is then your responsibility to make sure you enter that number in your frequent flyer profiles or when you make a reservation. One tip...if you have any existing reservations when you enter your KTN into a FF account, the KTN will not automatically update to those reservations. You usually have to talk to an ticketing agent to get that done manually. Once it's in though you should not have any problems after that. I have taken at least 2 dozen round trips since I got mine last year and it has never been an issue.

I'm guessing those guys must have opted for Global Entry.

The only reason I went with Precheck vs Global Entry was at the time the TSA was not doing the interviews at my local airport (STL). Didn't feel like making a trip to Chicago for it. Now STLhas it but by the time I need to renew, we will be living in Florida
All things being equal Global Entry is a better deal since you get a KTN with it
