My oldest friend from HS daze yet, lived in Crowley.....and I asked a lady cyber friend to stop by his house.....but nothing resulted from her inquiry.....I looked a few months later on the county web site and spotted his passing....at age 68......he was two years younger than me......

One of the nastiest accidents I've EVER seen. 1 1/2 miles of wrecked cars. I've heard anywhere from 6-8 deaths. We get this kind of ice usually twice a year, and of course a lot of the hillbillies here don't slow down. It's supposed to get even colder...down to 3 degrees Monday with a high of 18.

I have a friend in Ft. Worth I just got off the phone with, who called mainly to let me know he was OK. I was actually going to call him. We're expecting freezing weather here in Houston in a few days, so it's time to gather up supplies and hunker down, y'all.

I'm definitely not going to drive on ice if I can help it.

OK...I really love my friends, and I know I'm sounding like a dick. But we go through a cold snap like this about every year. Icy roads, bad wrecks (although nothing like the one today), down power lines, and I kinda giggle when people call or contact me with "Are you OK??????"
"Ummmmmmmm....yeeeaaahhh....I was just enjoying a cocktail, why?" "Well...it's really cold outside."



I mean, I truly appreciate the concern, but what did you think was going to happen? Or going to the store to "stock up on supplies and hunker down" as though we're in Siberia and a blizzard is coming in. Might be cold for a week!! Better get some canned goods and Sterno!! My neighbor said she had to hurry and get to the store to stock up on toilet paper "before the really cold weather gets here." I thought to myself "Does cold weather make you shit a lot more or screw with your bladder? Are you going to blow through more than 3 rolls worth of toilet paper in the next week because its below freezing?" (I know, I know...maybe she needed toilet paper anyway)

But really, this is Texas, not International Falls. We'll have a couple days of really cold weather...maybe some snow north of Austin. Don't drive unless you have to (and if so slow down), keep your pets inside, cover your outside faucets and plants and open up a good Cabernet. Or two. It'll magically get warm again.
