Here’s the thing. “Study” and “practice” have different meanings.

Study could mean learning songs or going to conservatory. Practice might mean noodling in front of the tv or doing hours of specific exercises.

Another huge factor is that people give up too soon. If you want to play, you need to dedicate a year or two just to sound anything remotely close to “music”.

Most people get frustrated before that point and quit prematurely. You have to ignore how badly you sound during that period. Then keep learning for the rest of your life.

Not digging on you. Genuinely curious. Give me a sense of what you did to learn.

I used to teach up to fifty private lessons a week. EVERY student who worked at it, learned to play. Several went on to major music schools and are pro players now. I just was contacted by one student who is a ****ing ace player now.

Took lessons once a week for a few months from an accomplished geezer. Practiced practiced practiced. Developed callouses. Can tune a guitar by ear. Have music books, notes and tab. I can read music, kinda. I know where notes are. I can strum and play notes, even learn simple melodies on my own by ear. I dabble; cannot play. Picked up my decent Yamaha acoustic yesterday. Tuned it. Dabbled. Put it away. Some of us just ain’t got it. I am hopeless. Pathetic, I know.

Some of what you dislike is what I love about him. Yes, like Page he can be a little sloppy. But there is a human element to that IMHO.

I remember reading an interview with one of Eric Johnson’s producers who said; His technical ability is phenomenal but I wish he’d just bash around a bit more.
